Paul McCartney admits soft spot for One Direction

Former Beatle is also a fan of Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars.

THEY'VE been dubbed the new Beatles and now British boy band One Direction have the seal of approval from one of the original Fab Four – Paul McCartney.

“I like One Direction. They’re young, beautiful boys and that’s the big attraction,” the 71-year-old said in an interview with Sky News television on Tuesday.

“But they can sing, they make good records, so I think that’s what I would see in common (with The Beatles) - girls love them.”

He cautioned against taking the comparison too far, however.

“I always think it’s a little bit unfortunate when you call (a band) the new Beatles. It can be the kiss of death because people expect you to live up to what we did,” he said.

“We did what we did in a particular period in time, which was very different to now. I don’t know whether it was easier to be a wild success, but it was different.”

McCartney said he also liked Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars - but admitted many of his listening habits these days were formed by his 10-year-old daughter Beatrice.

“For what it is, I think they’re really good records. Mind you, I’ve got a 10-year-old girl so we listen to that kind of stuff,” he said.

McCartney was speaking as New hit the shelves in Britain, his first album of new solo material in six years.

He has worked with several different producers on the 12-track album, including Paul Epworth, Mark Ronson, Ethan Johns and Giles Martin.

“It’s not difficult to come up with something new. To come up with something new which is good is difficult, because you’re stacking them against the stuff you’ve done - but you’ve got to just forget that,” he said.

“I love writing songs so I just have to say ‘don’t even try and better the old ones, just get on with it’. So I do. But I love doing it so much that I can’t stop.”

BRUNO MARS WINS SONG OF THE YEAR ASCAP POP MUSIC AWARD

Congrats are in order for pompadoured crooner Bruno Mars. He picked up the award for song of the year for his hit ‘Just the Way You Are’ at the 2012 ASCAP Pop Music Awards.

These honors are handed out by the songwriting society comprised of authors and composers. Mars and his songwriting team were recognized for their efforts. Unlike many pop stars, Mars is actually credited as one of the writers on this song, so he’s not just getting up there and doing his neo doo wop thing, singing other people’s melodies and lyrics. He is a part of the songwriting process.

Congrats to everyone involved in the conception and completion of ‘Just the Way You Are.’

The song was Mars’ debut single from ‘Doo Wops & Hooligans,’ dropping back in 2010.The song was also honored with a 2011 Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. It also peaked on the radio charts, too.

You can’t argue with a quality, solid song. It just hits in all the right places and ‘Just the Way You Are’ is unquestionably one of those tunes.

We’re looking forward to Mars next batch of songs!

Bruno Mars won't do black pudding for brekkie

ALL-American boy Bruno Mars will ensure all his future breakfasts in the UK do not contain black pudding.

The singer struggled to get his head round why we eat it.

He said: “I ordered breakfast in England and the menu made it look so tasty.

“The guy brings it down to me and I’m thinking, ‘This is delicious’, and I get on to this thing called black pudding, and I was like, ‘What is this?!?’

“He told me it was blood. What is wrong with you people? You guys tricked me with that.”

He could have at least tried it.

Jennifer Hudson And Bruno Mars Perform For Rainforest Fund

Jennifer Hudson and Bruno Mars were among a host of stars to perform at the Rainforest Fund benefit at Carnegie Hall earlier this week.

Bruno Mars was joined by Sir Elton John to sing a duet of the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody." Hudson, meanwhile, performed a gospel version of the Band's "The Weight."

Both songs were part of the evening's two-hour "Songs from the Silver Screen" theme, which featured performances from a range of stars including James Taylor, Sting, Roseanne Cash and more. The singers were backed up by the 40-piece St. Luke's Orchestra.

The evening's special guest speaker was none other than former President Bill Clinton. Clinton urged the crowd to realize that the plight of the rainforest was something that impacted everyone in the room.

"You have more in common with those isolated native tribes and those people who know how to care for their habitat than you can possibly imagine," he said.

The Rainforest Fund is a biennial event put together by Trudie Styler and has been going strong since 1988.

A representative for Bruno Mars dismissed a series of reports yesterday that the pop star had come out of the closet.

The rumors began after CNN iReport -- a subsection of the media outlet comprising 'citizen journalists' from around the world -- posted a since-removed story that stated, "The famous pop-star Bruno Mars admits his homosexuality," which caused the Mars' name to trend on Twitter.

As Gossip Cop notes, a second unnamed media outlet then reported that Mars had "admitted to a small Chicago radio station" that he was gay under the guise of an April Fools' Day joke to test reaction, and then actually came out.

"The timing is bad," Mars was quoted as saying in the interview. "I hadn't realized it was April Fool's Day, but it's been pointed out to me, and I don't want to go too public with this."

Mars' rep called both of the reports as "completely fabricated" and "false," according to Gossip Cop.

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has made no secret of his admiration for the "High School Musical" star, while other gossip sites have openly speculated about Efron's sexuality. Still, Efron has laughed it off: "I know it's very addictive to read that kind of stuff. It's entertainment. Honestly, if the worst [Perez Hilton] can say about me is that I'm gay, then I think I'll be fine. I can handle it."

Bruno Mars: I'm not super-poetic

Bruno Mars doesn't care for "super-poetic" songs, as long as he's singing "from the heart".

The award-winning musician is influenced by artists including Little Richard, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson, as well as Motown and reggae sounds.

Bruno loves that his records are passionate, but not overly so.

"My album is called Doo-Wops & Hooligans, but it's not a 1950s Earth Angel sound like you hear in Grease-type movies," he explained in a new interview with Playboy magazine.

"I could sing you a thousand and one doo-wop songs. I love the simplicity in that music. It's not super-poetic, it's just from the heart."

The 26-year-old singer has collaborated with a whole host of stars including Cee Lo Green, Travie McCoy and B.o.B.

However, Bruno has revealed who his ultimate music hook-up would be.

"Jimi Hendrix. I think he's the greatest guitar player in the world, and I would want to see him do his thing in person," he gushed.

"He's the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place."

Bruno also discussed his inspirations in more detail.

"Growing up in the showbiz world, I looked up to those guys: Frank Sinatra and of course Elvis Presley," he explained. "My dad was into the 1950s doo-wop era. If you look at those groups, or at James Brown, Jackie Wilson and the Temptations in the 1960s, you'll see you had to be sharp onstage."

Bruno is the tenth male to appear on the cover of the coveted publication. He took to his Twitter page to gush about the honour.

"Woke up this mornin feelin like a playboy ;)," he tweeted as the issue went on sale on Friday.

Bruno Mars gets steamy with Miss April in Tropicana-style shoot for Playboy magazine

It's a rare occurrence, one that's happened only nine times before in history: Bruno Mars has become the tenth male cover star of Playboy magazine.

The Grenade singer, 26, graces the cover of the annual Sex and Music edition, posing alongside the gorgeous Miss April, Raquel Pomplun.

In a retro, Tropicana-style photoshoot by renowned Irish photographer Tony Kelly, Bruno poses in a blue convertible with girls fawning over him.

He plays the ukelele fully clothed in a filled bath as swimsuit-clad Raquel peers in from outside.

One saucy shot sees Bruno being tugged from both directions by two beauties, with one glaring jealously as the other presses her lips to his.

The Grammy-winner is chuffed over joining a very select club of male Playboy cover stars that includes Peter Sellers, Burt Reynolds, Steve Martin, Donald Trump, Jerry Seinfeld, Gene Simmons and most recently, Seth Rogen.

He tweeted as the issue went on sale: 'Woke up this mornin feelin like a playboy ;)'

The accompanying interview reveals that the stylish crooner, unsurprisingly, looks to the Forties and Fifties for inspiration.

'Growing up in the showbiz world, I looked up to those guys: Frank Sinatra and of course Elvis Presley.

'My dad was into the 1950s doo-wop era. If you look at those groups, or at James Brown, Jackie Wilson and the Temptations in the 1960s, you’ll see you had to be sharp onstage.'

Bruno, born Peter Gene Hernandez in Honolulu, grew up in a highly musical family, with a percussion-playing father and hula dancer mother.

In addition his dad played in a Little Richard tribute, while his uncle was an Elvis impersonator. Bruno followed in his uncle's footsteps and started out his career doing the same.

'My album is called Doo-Wops & Hooligans, but it's not a 1950s Earth Angel sound like you hear in Grease-type movies,' he told Playboy.

'I could sing you a thousand and one doo-wop songs. I love the simplicity in that music. It's not super-poetic, it's just from the heart.'

Asked who his ultimate collaborator would be, Bruno replied: 'Jimi Hendrix. I think he's the greatest guitar player in the world, and I would want to see him do his thing in person.

'He's the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place.'

The full interview and photoshoot appears in the new issue of US Playboy magazine, on sale now.

Bruno Mars Makes History as 10th Man to Appear on 'Playboy' Cover

The Grammy Award-winning musician is featured in the mag’s April Sex and Music issue, out March 16. He appears on the cover alongside Raquel Pomplun, as well as in a fashion pictorial and interview on the inside pages. In his feature, Mars models spring designs by Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana and more.

“Growing up in the showbiz world, I looked up to those guys: Frank Sinatra and of course Elvis Presley,” he told Playboy of his idols. “My dad was into the 1950s doo-wop era. If you look at those groups, or at James Brown, Jackie Wilson and the Temptations in the 1960s, you’ll see you had to be sharp onstage.”

Mars flaunts his signature style and dresses sharply for his photo spread, which includes the colorful shot below. Mars is pictured below wearing a shirt by Palace Costume Los Angeles, pants by Louis Vuitton, sunglasses by Ray-Ban and loafers by Re-Mix. In the cover shot above, Mars dons his own personal Armani suit.

Surprisingly, the “Grenade” singer chose Jimi Hendrix, not Sinatra or Presley, as the musician he would most like to work with if given the opportunity. “I think he’s the greatest guitar player in the world, and I would want to see him do his thing in person,” Mars said. “He’s the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place.”

As a Playboy cover star, Mars follows in the footsteps of several Hollywood icons. Peter Sellers was the first Y-chromosome to appear on the cover back in April 1967, followed by Burt Reynolds (October 1979), Steve Martin (January 1980), Donald Trump (March 1990), Dan Aykroyd (August 1993), Jerry Seinfeld (October 1993), Leslie Nielson (February 1996), Gene Simmons (March 1999) and Seth Rogen (April 2009).

Bruno Mars trumped by five-year-old Kingston Rossdale in GQ list of most stylish men under 30

Every year GQ casts its eye upon hot, young Hollywood talent to decide who has the sartorial savvy that will earn them a place on the Most Stylish list of under-30s.

2012's results are now in and this year sees big hair, slim suits and geek-chic rule in a list rounded off by soulful singer Bruno Mars.

Taking the top spot is Glee's Darren Criss, 25, who plays Blaine. Famed for his natty ex-Warbler bow-tie collection, in real life the actor and singer shows just as much pizazz in the style stakes rocking what GQ calls 'gutsy' suits.

Following close behind at number two is everyone's favourite Hogwart's pupil, Daniel Radcliffe, 22 who the magazine credits for having perfected the style of the 'modern gentleman'.

The list, a 30-strong collection of actors, singers and comedians features a host of recognizable young faces praised for aesthetic choices that range from dressed-down street-chic to the smarter, three-piece suit.

The Jonas brothers' contrasting tastes both earned them a spot in the top 10.

The older of the two, Joe, 22, shows he's grown out of Disney Club and gone on to become a trendster who often anticipates the latest look (when he's not sporting strange tent-striped suits).

His younger brother, Nick, 19, managed to nab sixth place for a style that resembles a young Tom Cruise: Leather jackets and laid-back jeans with a shirt and shoes for originality.

Also boasting a top 10 win are Jack Huston, 29, Anjelica Huston's tall, dark and handsome nephew, funny kid Donald Glover, 28, and and bouffant haired super-hero-to-be Andrew Garfield, 28.

Of course, no style list of men under 30 would be complete without Justin Bieber, 18, who steals in at number nine thanks to what GQ calls his 'lux' taste and YSL brooches.

Prep is represented by Armie Hammer, 25, and Ed Westwick, 24, who seemingly has learned a few lessons from his Gossip Girls costume designers.

The rest of the list includes the no less popular or sartorially challenged Chris Colfer of Glee, progressive rapper, Kid Cudi, 28 and Zac Efron, 24, who channels a bit of Ryan Gosling and a lot of James Dean with his leather bomber jacket and sunglasses.

Kudos for pulling off the dressed down look is given to Shia LaBoeuf, 25, and actor Michael B. Jordan, 25.

Perhaps most surprising of all is five-year-old Kingston Rossdale's inclusion in the list, who most likely has his parents Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani to thank.

30 MOST STYLISH MEN UNDER 30

1. Darren Criss, 25
2. Daniel Radcliffe, 22
3. Jack Huston, 29
4. Joe Jonas, 22
5. Armie Hammer, 25

Bruno Mars' sister on her eco-friendly org

Filipino-Puerto Rican and Hawaiian-born singer-songwriter Bruno Mars’ sister Jamie Kailani Hernandez Bayot, an artist in her own right, is one of the co-founders of the “eco-friendly community organization,” Mothers About Making Amends (MAMA Earth).

On its official Facebook page, MAMA Earth was described as “a grassroots organization promoting art, music and nature-based education as tools to make a change for the better” formed in 2007.

More, the “About Us” page on its official website reads that the org has been founded “with the intention to create exciting events that promote incredible music and different art forms in a fun and uplifting environment in order to raise money for causes that are close to her [Kailani’s] heart.”

In a taped interview aired on The Filipino Channel’s “Balitang America,” with the video posted on balitangamerica.tv on March 6, Kailani shared what inspired her set up the organization.

“On my jewelry-making venture, I found a bead, and it looked like the earth, and it sort of inspired me to start making these MAMA Earth wish bracelets. I thought instead of kids selling candy at schools, they could use it to raise whatever funds for whatever charity they want, for their school as well,” she said.

Kailani was quoted as saying on the MAMA Earth website that the bead was called Malachite-Azurite, which “looked so much like the earth, blue and green,” and is “a stone that promotes healing and aids in transformation.”

Prior, Los Angeles-based Kailani worked as a jewelry designer, professional model and actress. At one point, she was also younger brother Bruno’s personal manager and booking manager.

“I enjoy doing good things, and it was always a way to get some of the creativity inside me out. I could do music; I could do art; and I could combine it all together to raise awareness,” she expressed.

MAMA Earth also holds music fundraisers featuring upcoming artists. One of them used to be Bruno himself who, according to “Balitang America,” continues to support the organization.

“He has performed at each and every MAMA Earth event thus far,” read a part of the org’s “About Us.”

The organization, which already has chapters formed in other parts of the globe, supports various global organizations and has also extended help to victims of natural disasters in Haiti, Japan, and the Philippines.

Bruno Mars puts margarine in his hair.
