Miley Cyrus could not 'come in like a wrecking ball' without serious injury, scientists conclude

Miley Cyrus, the singer would be unable to ‘come in like a wrecking ball’ without sustaining ‘significant injury’, the University of Leicester has concluded.

The study focussed on the lyrics of the singer's hit single Wrecking Ball from the American artist's album Bangerz.

David McDonagh, a student at the Centre of Interdisciplinary Science, found that Cyrus would be unable to gather sufficient momentum to have ‘impacted’ on either ‘love, or the walls of someone’s house’, as the song suggests.

McDonagh concludes that Cyrus would need to be travelling at around 316mph to demolish a wall – meaning she would need to be propelled by an outside force.

“Based on these findings, it is clear that a human being cannot possess the characteristics of a wrecking ball without sustaining significant injury, and other objects should be sought as an analogy,” he concluded.

“Any human behaving like a wrecking ball would likely result in serious injury.”

The study was carried out after the University of Leicester asked students to apply scientific principles to pop culture scenarios. Their work has been published in the Journal of Interdisciplinary Science Topics.

The journal aims to show the students the nuts and bolts of scientific paper writing, peer review and publishing – so while the findings may be fun, the science must be accurate.

Other published papers included:

Evidence suggesting Winnie the Pooh may have vitamin B12 deficiency

The number of lies Pinocchio could tell before the weight of his nose would cause his neck to break

The viability of throwing giant tortoises into mines

Mr McDonagh, 24, of Brighton, also found that extra-terrestrial Olympics would be “calmer and safer”

He identified Saturn’s sixth moon Enceladus as a possible destination for astro-athletes – as it is thought to hold 100 metre-thick blankets of very fine snow, making it “ideal for Winter Olympic events”.

Interestingly, he found that events such as the ski jumping large hill event would actually be a lot “calmer and safer” than it is here on Earth.

This is due to the fact that the moon’s gravity is only a fraction (1.15 per cent) of the Earth’s – coupled with an atmosphere less than a billionth as dense as ours.

This means for an event such as the large hill ski jumping event of the Sochi 2014 slope, the average distance reached would only be a fifth of that seen on Earth.

In addition, it would take 30 seconds to get to the end of the slope compared to around 5 seconds as seen at Sochi.

The time taken for the initial jump as the skier takes off would nearly double on Enceladus.

Somaya Turk looked into whether the downfall of Gus Fring on Breaking Bad was possible.

Viewers saw Fring meets a gruesome end. After finding himself on the receiving end of a homemade bomb, he is seen walking out of the room with half of his face completely blown off, revealing underlying facial muscles and skull.
After calmly adjusting his tie, the villain collapses dead in the doorway.

Ms Turk found that certain elements of his dramatic demise could be backed up with what we know of human biology – but there are also a few stumbling blocks for the scene’s claim to scientific accuracy.

Theoretically, someone who has sustained fatal injuries in an explosion could indeed retain the ability to stand up and walk. In such an event, the body initiates an acute stress response – with cell signalling molecules such as epinephrine and cortisol increasing the energy and blood circulation to parts of the body which are in most need.

In Fring’s case, this prevents him from feeling any pain for a few brief moments before collapsing to his death.

But Ms Turk concluded it was unlikely Fring would be able to walk out of the room in such a calm and collected manner. The body’s response would also release a chemical called norepinephrine which stimulates the brain and would make Fring behave erratically.

Given the extent of his injuries, it is also unlikely Fring would be able to walk if other parts of his body had been affected to the same extent as his head.-

As Miley Cyrus XXX Parody Is Revealed: 13 Hilariously-Titled Porn Movies Based On Pop Culture

Miley Cyrus fans were decidedly unimpressed yesterday (March 21) when screenshots emerged online showing a look-a-like of the singer engaging in XXX acts on-camera as part of a porn parody.

Molly's Wrecking Ballz cashes in on the former Disney star's recent career developments, but obviously it's just a drop in the ocean as far as XXX parodies are concerned.

From interesting spins on Mission: Impossible to Twilight (nope, not even Twilight is safe!) and TV shows like Downton Abbey, there have been an endless amount of adult movies based loosely around popular culture.

We've rounded up just 13 of the ones that made us laugh the most - Wrecking Ballz included - and presented them for your consideration below.

Don't worry - all the naughty bits have been censored out. But, just for they're nature, we should probably issue a cheeky NSFW warning anyway...

The Best Miley Cyrus "Wrecking Ball" Cover We've Heard

Miley Cyrus should've considered giving "Wrecking Ball" a country music twist. The Dixie Chicks recently covered it and it was pretty freaking awesome.

During the ladies' recent show at the O2 Arena in London, they busted out Miley's infamous love-cry song and basically left everyone wondering why they didn't release it as a single instead (sorry, Miley). Natalie Maines and the two other chicks added their typical country sound to the song and it just worked. What's even better, is that no naked wrecking ball rides were included in their performance...

Perhaps the Chicks' final product is how the hit would've sounded if Miley did a country version too? From the comments on YouTube, we aren't the only ones feeling the Dixie Chicks' cover, either. Watch their killer "Wrecking Ball" performance above.

Better Than Miley? Zayn Malik Rides Around On 'Wrecking Ball'

Zayn Malik may be several months too late but that hasn't stopped the One Direction star attempting to mimic Miley Cyrus' famous 'Wrecking Ball' video, although his version isn't as racy with the star climbing atop a plastic chair. Saucy!

The 'Best Song Ever' singer looks like he's having the time of his life in a snap posted on his Instagram page, caught in the midst of hysterical laughter as he sits mid-swing on top of a see-through plastic chair which is hanging from the ceiling and holding onto the chain for dear life.

Laughing at himself, Zayn captioned the image: “I came in like a wrecking ball!" such a dork !”

It looks as though the 21-year-old has been in a playful mood this week as he also shared a photo of himself messing around with a male family member whom he places in a headlock while gleefully sticking his tongue, with the caption: “The malik family is the greatest :D.”

The singer concerned fans earlier this week when he tweeted a series of subliminally messages including: “I'll give but if there's nothing left to give what can I do ? ?” while he hinted a couple of days prior that he was enjoying an evening of drinking, tweeting: “Meet my friend ... Jack Daniels :) he's cool, ha.”

Perhaps Zayn is feeling a little lonely with his fiancee Perrie Edwards currently in America supporting Demi Lovato on her 'Neon Lights' tour.

The pair spent a romantic Valentine's Day weekend together but Zayn jetted back to the UK to attend the BRIT Awards with his One Direction bandmates.

Perrie, 20, hinted at the end of last year that the 1D hunk found fame harder to deal with than she did, which could be one of the meanings between the singer's latest Twitter meltdown.

"When you're in this industry life's never going to be normal. As much as you try," Edwards told the Metro.

"I do whatever I want. I go shopping all the time. I go out for food. Go out with my mates. I do everything normally but obviously Zayn is really famous so it's harder for him but we still do what we want to do," she continued, before adding: "We like to stay grounded and be normal people and not act like divas."

TOP PICK: 'The Voice' Sneak Peek: Christina Grimmie Wows With "Wrecking Ball"

Spoiler alert: Christina Grimmie kills on the season premiere of The Voice.

In an NBC teaser for season six of the show, the singer gives a rendition of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" that is so powerful it causes every single judge to turn around in their seats.

"People come out here and they sing and you never know what to expect and then you turn around and you start to see how engaging and passionate and...you're more comfortable than I am up there almost and that is the moment where you realize that this person could be a huge star," Adam Levine said when Christina finished the song.

Christina is already a bit of a pro when it comes to wowing on stage.

The New Jersey native toured with Selena Gomez last year and has already released her first album, With Love.

Don't forget to tune into the Voice when it returns Monday night with mentors Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Usher and Shakira on NBC at 8 p.m..

Miley Cyrus Performs on New Year's Eve (Video)

Miley Cyrus poses for a photo with Ryan Seacrest and her backup dancers before hitting the stage to perform at Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2014 on Tuesday evening (December 31) in the heart of Times Square in New York City.

The 21-year-old singer performed her song “Get It Right” before going into her hit single “Wrecking Ball.”

“this cough/cold is not a good combo. please keep praying for me. If I can just get thru tonight I can have a nice lil break ????????????,” Miley tweeted earlier in the day. Looks like a lot people prayed for her as she did a great job!

FYI: Miley is wearing a custom top and pants with a fur coat by The Blonds.

Miley Cyrus' New Year's Eve Performance Plans: She Can't Ride the Ball When It Drops, Says Ryan Seacrest!

Why did Miley Cyrus cancel her New Year's Eve appearance in Miami to instead perform in NYC during the Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve With Ryan Seacrest show?

According to Ryan Seacrest, the 21-year-old "Wrecking Ball" singer couldn't pass up the chance to take over Times Square for the end-of-the-year holiday."

A couple weeks ago I ran into her and I said, ‘All right, this has been your year,'" Seacrest told E! News recently at Z100's 2013 Jingle Ball in NYC. "'You've got so much going for you, a lot of buzz. You've gotta perform in Times Square right before midnight.' And she said, ‘OK, I'm in.'"

Seacrest says Cyrus won't be getting anywhere near the ball when it drops, à la her infamous "Wrecking Ball" music video.

"This is a ball she cannot touch," he smiled. "This one she cannot. She's not allowed to. But she can be standing under it when it goes down, when it drops."

"I don't know what to expect from her," he added. "We've seen so many wild performances all year. This one is outside and the temperature's very cold generally. So we shall see."

Also at Jingle Ball in NYC was Enrique Iglesias, who tells us he'd love to work with Cyrus on some music.

"Miley would be cool," he gushed. "I love her music and I think what she's done lately has been great. There's a lot of controversy with what she's done lately, but you gotta admit the song's are good and she's a great performer, a great singer, a great artist."

In addition to her New Year's Eve plans, Cyrus also booked another gig recently. She'll be hosting the premiere of Beacher's Madhouse with showman and club founder Jeff Beacher at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Dec. 27.

Miley Cyrus’ Vevo Views Came in Like a Wrecking Ball

It’s no surprise: Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” was Vevo’s most-viewed music video of 2013. The video drew 19.3 million views on the music video website just in its first day in September. Since then, it has racked up over 371 million views worldwide.

It’s a good song, but we doubt that’s the reason so many people watched the video, which features the singer straddling a wrecking ball in the nude. Well, almost nude. She’s wearing shoes, as one does in a dangerous construction zone. And then there’s that part where she’s making out with a hammer…

But maybe it’s not all about nudity. The other risqué video of the summer, “Blurred Lines,” came only in seventh. Here’s the full top 10 list (as of Dec. 1):

1. “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus

2. “We Can’t Stop” by Miley Cyrus

3. “Scream and Shout” by will.i.am ft. Britney Spears

4. “Diamonds” by Rihanna

5. “Roar” by Katy Perry

6. “Just Give Me a Reason” by P!nk ft. Nate Ruess

7. “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke ft. T.I., Pharrell

8. “Stay” by Rihanna ft. Mikky Ekko

9. “La La La” by Naughty Boy ft. Sam Smith

10. “Kiss You” by One Direction

Carrie Underwood Parodies "Wrecking Ball," Blurred Lines" and More!

Carrie does Miley!

In a hilarious sketch with Rashida Jones and Jimmy Fallon on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Thursday night, the singer did a Thanksgiving version of Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball," complete a giant kitten behind her just like Miley's MTV EMA performance.

"You made me cook a Butterball, and then a green bean casserole," Carrie Underwood croons. "And all you did was watch football, and ignore your fa-a-mily."

The funny threesome also sang Thanksgiving themed renditions of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," Katy Perry's "Roar," "Blurred Lines" about Black Friday shopping and a Hanukkah themed version of Lorde's "Royals."

We liked Carrie's cover of Miley's song the most, but which parody was your personal favorite?

One Direction "Story of My Life" Didn't Break VEVO Record!

While One Direction fans did their very best to get 1D's newest music video for "Story of My Life" to record-breaking view status, they fell short.

Yep, that's right...Directioners couldn't seem to push One Direction's VEVO video past the current record holder for most views in 24 hours, Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball."

Of course, fans were disappointed, but they did break a 1D record--as "Story of My Life" racked up more views than their last video for "Best Song Ever."

Fans weren't entirely happy with that stat, however, taking to Twitter to demand a recount on the views for "Story of My Life."

Miley's video snagged 19.3 million in 24 hours, while 1D's came up short, as VEVO tweeted: "#SOMLonVEVO 24hr view count = 12.5 Million! Even bigger than Best Song Ever! Nice one, Directioners! @MileyCyrus holds the 24 views record with 19.3M on #WreckingBall."

What do you think of the views coming up short?

Britney Spears Calls Miley Cyrus "Brilliant," Says "Wrecking Ball" Singer Is a "Girl's Girl"

Miley Cyrus' antics and outfits may be raising eyebrows, but she's found a fan in Britney Spears. During a radio interview with London's 95-106 Capital FM (airing Sunday, Oct. 20), host Max asked Spears about her newfound friendship with her "Bangerz (SMS)" collaborator.

"My mom and her mom know each other," said Spears, who hails from Louisiana but now resides in California. "She's a girl's girl and she gets the whole Southern thing." Their connection doesn't end there, as the two also share a manager, Larry Rudolph. "It's just really worked out," she explained.

"I'm a huge fan of hers," the 31-year-old princess of pop added. "I think she's brilliant right now."

Spears said she's flattered by Cyrus' public praise. "She has so much energy and she's on fire, so for her to even say anything about me is just really cool," the mom of two shared.

During Cyrus' MTV documentary special, Miley: The Movement, she explained why it was important to work with Spears on her fourth album, Bangerz. "I always say I only want one bitch on my record, and that's Britney, bitch," said the Tennessee native.

The "We Can't Stop" singer recognized that she and Spears have made similarly controversial career decisions over the years. Even so, both musicians have amassed a loyal fan base. "The way that I am about Britney, that's the way a lot of people are about me," Cyrus said. "She was my first record. I was a lot of people's first album. First idol. I'll be a diehard fan for Britney, always."

Ironically, Spears wasn't the first choice when Cyrus recorded "Bangerz (SMS)" earlier this year. "The first name that we tossed around was Gwen Stefani," songwriter Sean Garrett recently told MTV. "We were talking about Gwen because you know Gwen got that edge too, but that's how God works."

Cyrus and Garrett also considered asking Nicki Minaj to lend her talents. "That would've been nuts too, but I think that's how God works," Garrett said. "This was absolutely the right one."

The latest one to portray her famous vid is wrestle legend Hulk Hogan. Yes, you read that right but don't worry he's not completely naked in it like she is!

In a new commercial for a hosting website, Hostamania, Hulk Hogan is seen swinging on a wrecking ball...in a thong.

One Direction Diss Miley Cyrus? Watch "We Can't Stop," "Wrecking Ball" in Concert

Uh-oh. Are the One Direction guys going to get in trouble for dissing Miley Cyrus?

Well, maybe not so much of a diss as having a laugh with some of Miley's material.

Watch this recent concert footage, where Niall Horan gives his 1D concert speech, only to break into song: a little bit of Miley's "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball" (complete with twerking and tongue stuck out, of course).

Niall gets a little help from Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne (plus they also take a stab at a Backstreet Boys classic).

Ah, all in good fun, right?

Director's Cut Of 'Wrecking Ball' Video Only Focuses On Miley Cyrus' Face

Miley Cyrus hit 14 million Twitter followers this week, and she celebrated the milestone by releasing the director's cut of her latest music video, "Wrecking Ball." Directed by boundary-pushing fashion photographer Terry Richardson, the original visuals to Cyrus' latest single alternated between tight shots of her face as she cried and footage of her riding a wrecking ball naked and licking a sledgehammer. Richardson's cut of the music video focuses solely on Cyrus' face, giving the video a more emotional feel. Cyrus recently defended the original video, telling Z100, "I think the video is much more, if people get past the point that I'm naked and you actually look at me. You can tell that I actually look more broken than even the song sounds."
