Justin Bieber, Macklemore dominate YouTube nominees

Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, One Direction, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Miley Cyrus and One Direction will tussle for top honors at the first-ever YouTube Music Awards show, which plays out Nov. 3 on the video-sharing site.

Avicii, M.I.A., Earl Sweatshirt, Tyler the Creator and Walk Off the Earth have been added to the lineup, joining previously announced performers Eminem, Lady Gaga and Arcade Fire.

Nominees are drawn from YouTube's most watched, shared, liked and subscribed-to artists of the past 12 months. Winners will be chosen by fan voting, which opens today at youtube.com/musicawards.

Demi Lovato 'Honoured' As Heart Attack Passes 100 Million Views Online

Demi Lovato is over the moon after seeing a music video of hers top 100 million views online for the first time.

'Heart Attack' is the track that has earned Dems her first ever VEVO Certified prize, which is awarded to anyone who releases a vid with a seven-figure view count.

The track's visual clip was released in early April and has become the former Sonny With A Chance star's most-watched music video to date.

The 20-year-old wrote ecstatically on Twitter: "Vevo certified?!! What whaaaattttt!!!! My Lovatics are THE BEST!!!! What an honor (sic)".

X Factor USA mentor Demi is riding high at the moment after releasing her new self-titled album in May. Lead single 'Heart Attack' gave her another Top 10 hit in the US and also her most successful chart appearance so far in the UK, peaking at No3.

She's been enjoying work on Simon Cowell's talent show too, taking to her micro-blogging profile with a picture montage, saying: "I [love] my XF family.. @SimonCowell @KELLYROWLAND @paurubio & @MarioLopezExtra".

The X Factor USA returns to screens this Autumn. Demi's video's 'Skyscraper' (99 million) and 'Give Your Heart A Break' (96.6 million) are also creeping up on 100 million views.

Demi Lovato graced GMA's Summer Concert Series stage to sing "Heart Attack," "Made in the USA," "Give Your Heart a Break" and "Really Don't Care."

Demi, wearing a white dress and denim vest, looked amazing and sounded fantastic.

She performed her hit songs and new track "Made in the USA" before a huge crowd who were ready to celebrate the summer with Demi.

Demi sat down with Good Morning America's Robin Roberts yesterday to announce her Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program yesterday.

The need to help those with mental illnesses was inspired in part by the recent death of her father.

She noted yesterday, "My father and I didn't have the most ideal relationship but at the end of the day he's still my dad."

Demi Lovato shared a number of "Heart Attack" remixes with fans--and there's quite a variety of sounds.

From super uptempo club beats to an almost hypnotic acapella version, there's probably a remix for everyone.

We're loving the Alias Club Remix and the White Sea Acapella remix (check them out below and all the "Heart Attack" remixes here).

Would it be too much trouble to ask for an acoustic version of "Heart Attack" too?

Demi also took to Twitter to share lyrics from songs on her albums, writing: "Should I tweet a few more lyrics from songs on my new album...???"

Last week we shared the meaning behind Demi Lovato's "Heart Attack: music video, but now she's offering up a behind-the-scenes video to explain even more.

Demi talks about filming the video after injuring her leg, saying, "It was actually the first time that I had worn heels since I had broken my ankle. So I'm not moving around that much."

Facial expressions, body language--and that black oil/paint all told the story, rather than trying to bust out fancy dance moves.

Demi explains the "Heart Attack" video "is all about being afraid to fall in love because you don't want to get hurt again. You see me in all white representing something pure, but the black on my hands represents the things that I can't let go of; it's the leftover pain and suffering from past relationships."

We love it!

Demi Lovato Explains What "Heart Attack" Video Means: What's With the Black Oil?

Demi Lovato's "Heart Attack" music video is pretty cool, we can all agree, but what's the meaning behind the black oil/ink?
In a recent interview, Demi explained, "When I'm in all white and I don't have much makeup on...I'm singing to the camera, I'm pouring my heart and soul into it, yet my hands are black...I feel like the black ink, to me, represents all of the things that I can't let go of."

She continued, "So the reason why I'm afraid to fall in love is because I'm afraid of getting hurt again. It's like the opposite to give your heart a break."

Demi added, "In this, it was like me having a hard time letting go of things, and then you see hand prints all over me and it's just kind of like things are pulling me back when I just want to fall in love."

There is meaning to the "Heart Attack" video, as Demi noted, "At one point I'm coming out of the ink and I'm just, like, surfacing and I'm coming out of it...I'm trying to represent the conflict between allowing yourself fall in love and just letting it happen."

The interviewer also asks where Demi sees herself in 10 years. She said, "I want to have had like two kids and a hubby."

Demi Lovato's Live Singing In 'Heart Attack' Clip Proves She's 'Real'

Demi Lovato is showing her dark and light sides in her just-released video for "Heart Attack." But, by all accounts, what she showed on set was even more impressive.

MTV News spoke to director Chris Applebaum, who revealed that while shooting the clip for "Heart Attack," Lovato did something that he's only seen Celine Dion do before her: sing live.

"I do also want to note that in 20 years of directing music videos, I have seen every single artist lip-sync to their video with the exception of two people. One was Celine Dion, who said, 'If you don't do that, you sing so that people can see your throat move and people can feel the emotion.' And two, it was Demi Lovato," he revealed. "Demi is the real deal. People felt it when they were around her."

He added, "Her performance is very interesting. I've worked with some of the biggest artists in the world, multiple times, and Demi is a really unique performer. She's extremely emotional. She's extremely complicated, wonderful, amazing, beautiful girl with a huge heart and conflicts within herself that she's dealing with very openly. And I feel like her performances are the visual equivalent of taking all of that, throwing it into a can of soda and shaking it up so that when you pull the top everything kind of explodes."

Indeed, Lovato explodes in the clip, clenching her fists and grimacing as she squeezes out raw emotion. The singer covers herself in black paint, as if she were masking her innocent, natural glow brought on by talking to her crush. She doesn't allow herself to fall in love, and the thick, black ink guards her from heartbreak. In other shots, she rocks out with her band. Wearing a dark, sheer top and smoky eyes, she belts out the song, leaving her fresh face behind.

"The song is about this kind of duality that Demi faces," he explained. "She's singing about really wanting to fall in love. But then also really wanting to make sure she holds herself back a little bit, so she doesn't get hurt. She constantly is singing about this duality throughout the song. It's like a push and pull where we tried to metaphorically represent those two sides by having two metaphorically different sides of Demi," he explained about the visual.

He added, "There's the angelic white. First you see Demi pictured in this more angelic white performance where these darker black elements start creeping into the frame almost ready to take over her. And then you also see her, the polar opposite, a black set-up where there's some white or good, I don't want to say good or evil, or good or bad, there's just sort of these opposites. You see her in this black environment where these forces of white, the opposite, are still present and creeping in."


While the clip doesn't favor elaborate storytelling to make its point, it does put Demi's heart and soul on display. "For her, it's a basic performance video; it's classic Demi," he said, before stumping for the art of the performance video. "Like, people want to see their artists; they want to see performances. Demi, we really tapped into those things that are unique about her, and unique about her as a performer to propel her viewers and her fans into the emotional core of the song."

"Heart Attack" is the lead single off her May 14 album release, Demi.
