It's truuue!! I'm performing #MadeInTheUSA on the Teen Choice Awards!! Tune in to Fox on Sun. and get it on iTunes!! http://t.co/2nSHnFNgIN

— demetria lovato (@ddlovato) August 8, 2013
The live performance marks Lovato's first since taking a brief hiatus to get her tonsils removed last month. However, now that the tonsils are out of the way, it seems Lovato could be suffering from another setback.

"That one time I sprained my foot because I was the idiot that rock-climbed without strapping into a harness first," Lovato tweeted shortly after she was confirmed as a performer. "Not my brightest moment."

Fingers crossed that the "X Factor" judge's injury is minor because she may lifting several surfboards come night's end since she is up for six Teen Choice awards (Lovato has previously won 11 awards), including Choice TV: Personality- Female and Choice Female Artist for "Heart Attack," which puts her up against Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and "Pitch Perfect" star Anna Kendrick.

Lovato joins previously announced performers Paramore and One Direction who will open the show with their first-ever performance of their latest single, "Best Song Ever."

The show will be hosted by "Glee's" Darren Criss and "Pretty Little Liars" star Lucy Hale. Hollywood's hottest young stars will be in attendance during Sunday's show, including six-time nominee Selena Gomez, Nina Dobrev, The Wanted and Liam Hemsworth.

Demi Lovato's Fourth Of July Single 'Made In The USA' Is About 'Real Love'

Demi Lovato has got the perfect jam to add to your Fourth of July playlist, her latest Demi cut, "Made In The USA," which celebrates red, white and blue-hued true love.

Just in time for the holiday, MTV News got the inside scoop on the up-tempo, Independence Day release from songwriter, Jason Evigan, who recalled what it was like crafting the tune with Demi. "These American romantic love stories [inspired it] and I feel like they're unbreakable through the years, through time, since the 30s and 40s and 50s, they still hold up. Real love, if it's made in the USA, it's never gonna break," Evigan explained of the song's patriotic lyrics.

Evigan, who also worked with Demi on her single "Heart Attack," shared some of the history of the song. It was originally written for R&B singer, Blair Perkins, two years ago but after Mio Vukovic, who helped to A&R Demi's May album release, heard the song, he knew it was meant for the former Disney actress.

So, they tweaked the production to fit Demi's aesthetic, throwing some guitar on the track. "It was [always up-tempo], but it was 808s and trap drums and sounded almost like a young Chris Brown record. It's funny because if you listen to it, if you put a swag on it, it actually has a pretty R&B feel to it," he said. "[Now] it's got like a country vibe mixed with this R&B feel, which makes it kind of pop country rock thing."

Once the production was Demi-fied, the singer heard it and immediately fell for it. "She came in she loved it. She had the whole concept for the video in her head [as soon as she heard it], which is funny because she ended up directing it. I haven't seen the video, yet but I heard it's pretty awesome," Evigan recalled. The Demi co-directed video is slated to drop later this month.

He continued, "She recorded it and had some really good changes on it. She had some good ideas, just some lyrical ideas. If it wasn't for Mio having phenomenal ears, he really heard through the R&B production that this can be a big pop song and he was right. It's crazy how it all turned out that way."

In fact, those updates were inspired by some of Demi's own real-life experiences. "This song is 100 percent real to Demi now," Evigan said. "During the session, I can't say what, there was definitely some talk going on. She was talking about how this relates to her life in certain ways, all about her love being made in the USA. She owned it. She freestyled it out and made it awesome."

Demi Lovato Releases 'Made In The USA' Just In Time For Independence Day

Demi Lovato's patriotic track 'Made in The USA' was released in time for the Fourth of July celebrations today and is "pretty awesome" according to her songwriter Jason Evigan.

The 'Made in the USA' star's Independence Day release is sure to be a hit with fans. The uptempo track was written by songwriter Jason Evigan who revealed the working progress with the X Factor USA judge.

The 20-year-old's ecstatic reaction to the record reportedly inspired her to turn her hand to directing the video, which is due to be released later this month."She came in she loved it. She had the whole concept for the video in her head [as soon as she heard it], which is funny because she ended up directing it. I haven't seen the video, yet but I heard it's pretty awesome," the songwriter explained to MTV.

The patriotic song actually has a complicated musical history as it almost fell out of Demi's grasp. Evigan, who also worked with Demi on her single "Heart Attack," revealed the track was originally intended for R&B singer Blair Perkins two years ago, however after Ne-Yo - who helped to A&R Demi's May album release - heard the song, he knew it was meant for the 20-year-old actress.

As Demi has put her own rock country spin on the record it is now almost unrecognisable against the original however the songwriter claims it could have been an R&B hit and better suited for the likes of Chris Brown not the former Disney star.

He continued: "It was [always up-tempo], but it was 808s and trap drums and sounded almost like a young Chris Brown record. It's funny because if you listen to it, if you put a swag on it, it actually has a pretty R&B feel to it," he said.

"[Now] it's got like a country vibe mixed with this R&B feel, which makes it kind of pop country rock thing."

"She recorded it and had some really good changes on it. She had some good ideas, just some lyrical ideas. If it wasn't for Ne-Yo having phenomenal ears, he really heard through the R&B production that this can be a big pop song and he was right. It's crazy how it all turned out that way."

Demi Lovato graced GMA's Summer Concert Series stage to sing "Heart Attack," "Made in the USA," "Give Your Heart a Break" and "Really Don't Care."

Demi, wearing a white dress and denim vest, looked amazing and sounded fantastic.

She performed her hit songs and new track "Made in the USA" before a huge crowd who were ready to celebrate the summer with Demi.

Demi Lovato: "Made In the USA" Behind the Scenes Video

Demi Lovato's "Made in the USA" music video is coming very soon, but for now, watch this behind-the-scenes look at the making of the video.

You definitely get a good idea of the concept for the video, co-directed by Demi.

There is, of course, a whole "American" theme, with the all-American carnival serving as the story's backdrop.

Demi explained that the video is about a couple "who meet each other at a carnival, and they fall head over heels in love."

Though Demi is not one-half of the love story, she is in the video, performing at the fair.

She definitely looks like she enjoys the creative challenge of directing.

We can't wait to see the finished product!

Demi Lovato speaks on dad's death

Demi Lovato reveals her father didn't "function very well in society" before he passed.

The 20-year-old singer's dad Patrick died recently after a battle with cancer. Lovato revealed on Thursday that he suffered from a mental illness.

It was previously reported she and her father were estranged for several years, but Lovato has a lot of compassion for her late father.

"I've dealt with mental illness. My father dealt with mental illness," she said during an appearance on "Good Morning America." "He wasn't able to function very well in society."

Lovato struggles with bipolar disorder, and has also previously discussed issues with self-harming and an eating disorder.

The star used her TV appearance to announce she would be setting up a scholarship in her dad's honor to help one person at a time pay for mental illness treatment.

"I'm working with Cast Recovery, a treatment center I've worked really, really closely with, and I have trust in their program," she said.

The "X Factor" judge added that she and her father did not have a close relationship.

A few weeks before he died, Patrick reached out to his daughter via Radar Online, telling the website he "just wanted his little buddy back".

"My father and I didn't have the most ideal relationship," Lovato acknowledged during her TV interview. "But at the end of the day, he's still my dad. And I grew up with him, he was a wonderful person. And it's difficult. But I'm handling it OK."

Lovato also paid tribute to her fans for their support during difficult times.

"The best thing about my fans is they have stood by me for everything I've been through," Lovato said. "And this past week has been a rough week. I had incredible support from them."

The star is keeping busy promoting her new single, "Made in the USA."

Demi Lovato’s “Made In The USA”: Hear The New ‘Demi’ Track

Demi Lovato is currently letting fans unlock the tracks to her forthcoming album Demi (head here to get involved), which drops May 14. The first song to be revealed, “Made in the USA,” is also expected to be her next single and as the title implies, it’s a departure from the driving dance sonics of “Heart Attack.”

This one is more of a homegrown, organic pop package — there’s a banjo and a Chevy name-drop — with Demi declaring “Our love was made in the USA.” The song is still glossy and danceable, and Demi’s impassioned voice certainly fills up the spaces that most of today’s pop songs fill with in-your-face electronica. Hear the song below, and begin counting down the days to the inevitable mashup with Miley Cyrus‘ “Party in the USA.”
