Taylor Swift to perform at Kate Middleton's birthday next year

Britain's Prince William is reportedly hoping to have Taylor Swift perform at his wife's birthday party.

The Duchess of Cambridge will be celebrating her 32nd birthday on January 9 next year.

William, 31, met the Red singer during a charity event at Kensington Palace last month which he hosted for his youth homeless charity Centrepoint.

After the pair sang a rendition of Livin' On A Prayer with rockstar Jon Bon Jovi, the second-in-line to the throne is said to have spoken to Taylor about his wife's secret party.

"William's been trying to get Kate's surprise sorted for 9 January when she turns 32," a source told British magazine Closer. "When he met Taylor Swift recently he asked her if there's any likelihood she's in the UK for the New Year, or just after, because he knows Kate's a fan and she's love to meet the singer."

Before this happens the royal couple and their baby son Prince George are set to enjoy their first Christmas together as a family.

They also hope to meet up with some A-list pals during the festive season.

"Like any new family, they're looking forward to having some alone time, but they also want to catch up with friends," the insider added.

"There's talk of meeting with the Beckhams. William and David have been in touch since they worked on the Olympic bid together and they're going to be in London for part of the time, so there are tentative plans for a get together."

TOP PICK: First Official Family Photo of Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince George

Aww! Proud parents Kate Middleton and Prince William are absolutely glowing in the official first family photo, which was released by the palace today.

In the photo, Prince George's sweet little face can clearly be seen, but it looks like the little guy slept through the photo shoot.

Their dog Lupo, however, appears to be super enthusiastic about the whole thing and seems super proud to be posing with the fam.

One thing we really love about this photo is how relaxed William and Kate look, which, according to People magazine, was important to them.

According to their source, William and Kate felt that the "best way to capture the couple in a relaxed manner" was to have a family member take the pics, so Kate's father Michael snapped the photos.

If you're wondering who the other dog in the photo is (far left), that's the Middleton family dog Tilly, who was clearly also captured in a "relaxed manner."

In the second photo (below), only the Prince, the Duchess and Duke of Cambridge are pictured.

We have to say, we love everything about both of these photos and we're having a hard time deciding which one we like best! Then again, who said we have to?

Kate Middleton and Prince William have often been called the "modern monarchs," so it doesn't come as much of a surprise that we learned the identity of their son (previously known as "the Royal baby") on Twitter.

Today, he is already out and about and left Kensington Palace earlier in the day to visit his maternal grandparents at their house in Buckleberry.

TOP PICK: Kate Middleton Baby Watch: Who is at the Hospital for Birth?

Kate Middleton is currently in labor with her first child with husband Prince William and people from around the world are waiting for news on the Royal Baby’s birth!

The 31-year-old Duchess of Cambridge was joined by Will as they made their way from Kensington Palace to St. Mary’s Hospital just before 6 am on Monday morning (July 22). He is reportedly the only member of the royal family who will be at the hospital for the birth.

Kate‘s mom Carole and her younger sister Pippa Middleton have reportedly made their way to the hospital already.

Will‘s younger brother Prince Harry is currently at his base with the Apache Army Air Corps squadron and their dad Prince Charles is expected for some public engagements today.

It was confirmed that Queen Elizabeth II was notified of the news. She is however not at Buckingham Palace at the moment, but rather at Windsor Castle in Berkshire, according to NBC News. There are some reports out there that William will eventually give his grandmother a phone call via an encrypted line to inform her of the baby’s birth, rather than the normal protocol of her being hand-delivered a note.

TOP PICK: Royal Baby Update: Kate Middleton and Prince William Prepare for Birth

Kate Middleton's due date is fast approaching, with mention that we could see the birth of Kate and Prince William's royal baby on July 13, according to some reports.

Other reports peg Kate's due date as July 11...but then again, babies have their own timetable, so the little royal could arrive earlier or later.

Here's a rundown of the preparations underway for Kate and William's first baby, who will officially be called His Royal Highness Prince [First Name] of Cambridge or Her Royal Highness Princess [First Name] of Cambridge, depending on the baby's gender:

When William is away on duty with the Royal Air Force, a helicopter is on stand-by, at the ready to whisk him to Kate's side when she needs him.

William is playing polo this weekend, which has some royal baby watchers a bit nervous that he won't be available when the baby is ready.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly will embark on a royal baby tour in 2014, according to Us Magazine.

The birth announcement will be placed in a frame on an easel behind the gates of Buckingham Palace.

It's likely the official announcement will be made on Twitter as well.

After the birth is announced, William will likely make a statement outside the hospital and celebratory gun salutes will be sounded in Green Park and at the Tower of London.

When they leave St. Mary's Hospital, Catherine is expected to show the first glimpse of the royal newborn on the steps, as Princess Diana did when William was born.

William is set to take a two-week paternity leave before returning to the Royal Air Force.

The couple and newborn will spend time between London and Kate's parents' home in Berkshire, before the family moves to Kensington Palace in September.

Names? Nannies? Nurseries? All Your Will & Kate Royal Baby Questions Answered!

A royal birth is almost upon us, and no, we're not talking about the one just cooked up by Kim Kardashian. We're sure that North West is all kinds of cute, but, even with the inevitable title that Lord Disick will bestow, that tot won't actually be in line for the British throne.

The son or daughter of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, however, sure will.

By the way, fun fact: It's been nearly 31 years since the world has greeted a fresh prince or princess of England. We've been fielding plenty of questions about how such arrivals might differ from, you know, your typical birthing process. Turns out, that, even as a newborn, royal babies are not just like us.

We wrangled a couple of royals experts, including British entertainment reporter and royals watcher Adora Olehn, and Dr. Elisabeth Cawthon, a British history and royal family expert at The University of Texas at Arlington. The result: This Burning Q&A!

What will Will and Kate name their baby?
And there is the million-pound question, perhaps literally. British betting shops have crunched the odds on names ranging from the reasonable Edward to long shots such as Adele or Elvis.
For a girl, oddsmakers like the sound of Alexandra. Queen Victoria's given name was Alexandrina, and, as Cawthon points out, King Edward, who ruled in the early 20th century, had a very respected wife named Alexandra.

Where will the baby be born?
Kate will follow in the footsteps of her late mother-in-law, Diana, who birthed both princes in the private Lindo wing of St. Mary's, Paddington, in London.

Unlike secret births of past royals, the public will be informed once the laboring Kate has arrived at the hospital and is safely in her room, according to a palace rep.

What are the rules about giving birth? Will the queen be there?
"Never," Olehn tells me, laughing. "Never the queen. She's really coming on [in years]. She's in her 80s now. But I am sure they will be waiting with bated breath."

Hundreds of years ago, it wasn't uncommon for a royal birthing suite to be stuffed with foreign dignitaries and political cronies. Today? Not so much. More likely, the Duchess of Cambridge will have a small number of people in attendance when she delivers. "I would imagine her mother and Prince William, as well as the people who have been working with her to prepare her for the birth."

Indeed, a palace spokesperson confirmed this week that William "fully intends to be present at the birth." (The prince is planning to take his allotted two weeks of paternity leave from his helicopter-piloting gig.) The Middletons are expected to visit, but the queen will be summering at her Scottish getaway, Balmoral, and will not return for her great-grandchild's big debut.

Gynecologist Marcus Setchell will be in charge of extracting the babe from the royal womb.

Will there be a baby shower?
Probably not.

"The idea of a baby shower before a baby is born is not very common in England, and certainly not to royals, who place a lot of value on that etiquette," Cawthon tells me.

What kinds of gifts are appropriate?
Historically, we're looking at a lot of silver, "engraved with the baby's name — a baby rattle, or cup," Cawthon tells me. That said: Please, please do not send the royals a present.

"I would argue that they are going to give very strong hints to the public, if not a direct statement, 'Don't send anything, we don't need anything, it's inappropriate for people who don't have as much money as we do to be sending gifts,'" Cawthon dishes. "If they allowed anything at all, it would be a charitable donation."

Where will the baby be raised?
Olehn says the couple eventually plans to raise the baby in Kensington Palace, which is being renovated to accompany them. The fact that these parents want to raise their own child may seem like a no-brainer, but in previous centuries, royal kids were sometimes given their own households, miles away from London, before they were out of diapers.

What is the appropriate way to address the baby?
The queen has already decreed that the child will be known as Royal Highness, though, in the past, baby princes and princesses have been known as Right Honorable.

"He or she will have a title eventually," Cawthon notes — say, duchess or earl. But remember, such official titles don't often come until a royal nuptial; William himself wasn't dubbed a Duke until the eve of his wedding to Kate Middleton.

Will there be a christening?
Oh heck yes. Traditionally, the crowned heads of Britain are also the leaders — actually, make that Supreme Governors — of the Church of England. And there's no reason to believe that Will and Kate will separate their baby from that practice.
"A royal christening has both a private and a political aspect," Cawthon says. "It is seen as privilege of the Archbishop of Canterbury to preside over that, if he wants to, and it highlights the role of the heir to the throne as the future head of the Anglican church."

As for timing, Cawthon tells me this:

"Historically, it's depended on the health of the child. If a child were born deathly ill, the christening would happen immediately. There are historical examples of this. But in general, a month or two after birth is the norm, though there have been cases of christenings happening six, seven, eight or nine months after, depending on schedules."

Will there be nannies? What about ladies in waiting if it's a girl?
The answer to both questions is, probably. "William and Kate want to be very hands-on parents," Olehn notes, but William and Harry also had a nanny.

As for ladies in waiting, "those are socially important offices — political rewards," Cawthon says. "They're too important not to be bestowed on someone right away."

Will there be play dates?
When Queen Elizabeth was a kid, her minders had to bring little friends to the palace for play dates, Cawthon says. Today? Not so much. You can expect the royal child to actually leave Kensington palace for things like school and, yes, play dates.

How will they announce the birth?
"There are some choices that really might surprise us about this royal modern couple," Cawthon concludes. "I doubt they will break with every aspect of tradition, but they might shake things up a bit."
And so it shall be.

Per the royal rep, the tidings will go down something like this: an aide will take a physical copy of the birth bulletin, on a Buckingham Palace-stamped scroll no less, and then be escorted by royal coterie to the palace, where it will be posted on ye olde special stand erected for such Important Public Announcements. That's the old-fashiony portion.

To make sure the rest of the world finds out in a timely manner, there will be a simultaneous Twitter blast and press email alerting the universe of the tyke's gender, weight, and time of birth.

We can hardly wait.

TOP PICK: Prince Harry Talks Nude Photos & Kate Middleton's Pregnancy

Prince Harry serves times as an Apache helicopter Pilot and Gunner in these new photos released from his time spent in the Army Air Corps over the last few months in Camp Bastion, Afghanistan.

The 28-year-old royal chatted with press about his brother Prince William‘s expectant baby with his wife Kate Middleton, as well as his nude photo scandal from last summer.

“I’m thrilled for both of them,” Harry said (via Us Weekly). “It’s about time. I can’t wait to be an uncle.”

“I think it was very unfair that they were forced to publicize it when they weren’t ready, but that’s just the media for you,” Harry griped. “I literally am very very happy for them, but I hope she and him, mainly Catherine, hopefully gets the necessary protection to allow her as a mother, to be able to enjoy the privacy.”

“I probably let myself down,” he said about the Vegas scandal. “I let my family down, I let other people down. At the end of the day, I was in a private area and there should be a certain amount of privacy . . . The way I was treated by [the media] I don’t think is acceptable.”

TOP PICK: Kate Middleton's first official portrait revealed: Painting of Duchess of Cambridge met with mixed reaction

Princess Kate's official portrait was unveiled Friday and it’s a good thing she likes it — and this isn’t the 15th century.

Otherwise, artist Paul Emsley’s head might be on the chopping block.

The curtains hiding Kate Middleton’s picture had barely parted before London’s art critics began blasting Emlsey for making her look like a vampire and worse.

“Kate Middleton is — whatever you think of the monarchy and all its inane surrounding pomp — a pretty young woman with an infectious smile, a cascade of chestnut hair and a healthy bloom,” Charlotte Higgins of The Guardian newspaper wrote. “So how is it that she has been transformed into something unpleasant from the ‘Twilight’ franchise?”

“I’m really sad to say this is a rotten portrait,” Daily Mail art critic Robin Simon weighed in.

Waldemar Januszczak of The Sunday Times likened it to “a giant Polaroid.”

“He made her look older than she is and her eyes don’t sparkle in the way that they do and there’s something rather dour about the face,” he sniffed.

But the opinion that really matters is Kate’s and she has reportedly described it as “amazing.”

“I thought it was brilliant,” she added.

Her husband, Prince William, concurs.

“It’s absolutely beautiful,” said the second in line to the British throne.

Emsley, an award-winning painter born in Scotland and raised in South Africa, said he’s not surprised by the critical pans.

“A person whose image is so pervasive, for an artist it is really difficult to go beyond that and find something which is original,” he said.

TOP PICK: Kate Middleton Pregnant With Twins? Here's Which One Would Get the Throne, and When

Much is being made at this hour about twins in the royal family. After all, the poor mother-to-be Kate Middleton has been struck with a condition called hyperemesis gravadarum. Also known as extreme morning sickness, it can—can—indicate twins.

That, plus there have been some twins in both Kate's and Prince William's families.

So, for the sake of this column, let's say that's the case. Let's say there are two royal babies born unto Middleton and her prince.

Here's how it's gonna go down:

First, you should know this:

If Kate bears twins, it'll be a first, in a way, for the Mountbatten-Windsor clan. Yes, both families have some twins: William's maternal uncle Charles has identical twin daughters, and Diana's grandfather Lord Fermoy was an identical twin. Kate's paternal grandmother was a twin, too, yadda yadda.

"It doesn't really change anything," royalty expert and ABC contributor Victoria Arbiter tells E! News (her father was a press secretary to Queen Elizabeth II). "All it really means in one fail-swoop we would have provided the nation with an heir and a spare. So job done really!"

Indeed, but never before have twins been within cricket-batting distance of the British throne. Ever.

Now: According to British law, the first-born of an heir to the throne gets the golden ticket, regardless of gender. (The law used to favor only boys, but that changed last year.)

If the birth is a live birth, whichever kid naturally pops out first is our grand prize winner. But, as some reports have been pointing out, Kate could need a Caesarian. If that's so, her doctor could—could—end up deciding the royal succession. Or the position of the kids at the time of delivery could. Or any number of other factors could decide this thing.

"Any doctor knows their No. 1 concern is the health and well being of the mother and the baby," Arbiter assures us. "They wouldn't be picking which baby to pull out first. They are picking the baby that needs to come out first in order to get the other baby out. So, it doesn't change things."

All this said, let's not go crazy with scenarios just yet.

Yes, it is statistically likely that the royal fetus or fetuses will wear a crown. But British royals, particularly in more recent generations, tend to live quite a long time. Queen Victoria reigned for 25 years. Queen Elizabeth II just celebrated her Diamond Jubilee marking—wait for it—60 years on the throne.

Prince Charles, Liz's heir, is already 64. Think about how long he's been waiting for the crown. Suppose, just suppose, that Liz II dies this year, at 86. We'll use that as a benchmark.

For the sake of argument, if Charles also dies at 86, he will have reigned for 22 years. By the time William is crowned, that man will be 52, and his totally theoretical twins will be 22. So if he reigns until he's 86, another 34 years, whichever twin gets pulled out first will then get to sit on the throne at the age of 56.

In the year 2069.

In other words, yes, the twins would be in line for the throne, but, barring tragedy, the world will be waiting for the first-born's coronation for a very, very long time.

Emma Watson: 'Duchess Catherine is awesome'

Emma Watson thinks Britain's Duchess Catherine is doing an 'awesome' job of being a royal.

The British actress thinks it would be very tough to be part of the royal family herself, but is impressed at how Catherine - who married Prince William in a glittering ceremony at London's Westminster Abbey in April 2011 - is dealing with it.

Speaking in an interview with Anderson Cooper that will air next month, she said: 'I think it's a hard deal being a royal. I think that would be intense. I think Kate's doing an awesome, awesome job of it.'

The 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' star may also have sympathies with Catherine - also known as Kate Middleton - and her recent topless picture scandal, as she admits being followed by the paparazzi can be tough.

She said recently: 'These gowns are ridiculous. You're being photographed from every angle, so not only do you have to consider how the thing looks, but whether you're going to be able to sit in it and whether people are going to be able to see up your skirt.'

Danish magazine to publish topless Kate pictures as French police raid Closer's Paris office in effort to identify the photographer

A Danish magazine today announced its intention to publish the topless photos of the Duchess of Cambridge, as police raided the headquarters of the original source, Closer.

Kim Henningsen, editor-in-chief of Denmark's Se & Hoer, said the pictures will appear in a 16-page supplement sold with Thursday's edition.

He said he wanted to show Denmark's entertainment fans 'what these photos are all about.'

He said the magazine had been offered 240 pictures but decided only to use 60 to 70 of them. He declined to say who sold them to the weekly or how much money they paid.

Apple previously rejected a proposal for an app by Se & Hoer, saying it needed to be restricted from those under 17 years old because of the amount of nudity in the magazine.

The topless photos have already been widely published in France, Italy, Ireland and on the internet, but a court banned future publication in France after William and Kate won an injunction.

Officers arrived at the Closer building in Paris at 10am, with detectives confirming they were looking for information 'which might lead to the identity' of the paparazzi responsible.

The investigation was launched by prosecutors in the French capital on Monday.

Christophe Bigot, a barrister who specialises in media law, immediately questioned the legality of the raid - suggesting that it had solely been authoritised because members of the Royal Family were involved.

Journalistic sources - who include photographers - are strictly protected by French law, which was tightened up as recently as two years ago.

'A law of January 2, 2010 protects the confidentiality of sources, as do numerous decisions of the European Court of Human Rights,' said Mr Bigot.

'In the case of William and Kate, I do not see how a prosecutor could justify a search of Closer.'

Yesterday, judges ordered Closer to hand over all files containing the images to representatives of the couple within 24 hours, but there was no order to name the photographer.

Of today's raid, a police source said: 'The aim is to seize any information which might lead to the identity of the photographer.'

The photos were taken on September 5 from a public road up to a mile from Chateau d'Autet, a £15million leisure retreat where the couple were staying.

The court agreed that the couple 'could legitimately suppose the chateau, east of Avignon in Provence, was sheltered from prying eyes' and that the violation of their privacy was 'particularly intrusive'.

The court ruling described the magazine's use of the photos as a 'brutal exhibition' of their intimacy.

However, the court ruled that it was 'beyond its powers' to 'ban the republication of the magazine'.

The royal couple's lawyers had not asked for copies already in newsagents to be removed from shelves as 'the damage has already been done'.

The preliminary criminal investigation remains against 'people unknown', with nobody yet knowing who the photographer who stalked Chateau d'Autet, owned by Viscount Linley, was.

Earlier this week a local newspaper photographer has admitted being at the scene, and taking a picture of William and Kent by the chateau's swimming pool.

But Philippe Minard, the managing editor of La Provence, insisted that Valerie Suau was not responsible for taking the topless pictures.

Valerie whose name is pronounced ‘sewer' said she took pictures of Kate in her swimsuit, but not, she says, topless.

She described her pictures, published in France’s La Provence regional newspaper, as ‘all decent’.

Mondatori Magazines France, the Closer's publisher, faces a 10,000-euro fine for every day that photos are distributed.

It was also ordered to pay 2,000 euros in court costs, the written injunction handed down by the judges states.

The ruling prevents Closer, which published the pictures in its current edition, from reusing them in print or on its website.

It is also prevented from selling them to countries where they have not been published. The penalty for sale of the photos was set at 100,000 euros. Publishing of the photos was also banned 'on digital tablets'.

Despite the court victory, the pictures are already widely available on the Internet and have been printed in Ireland's Daily Star newspaper and Italy's Chi magazine.
