“At the moment bath time is quite painful, but hopefully donning a snorkel and mask might calm him down,” William said (via People).

Prince William hosts Emma Watson, Cate Blanchett at Windsor Castle

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, flew solo Tuesday night for a charity dinner at Windsor Castle -- but despite his wife's absence, there was no lack of glamour surrounding the royal.

Wills was hosting the event, sponsored by designer Ralph Lauren, to benefit the Royal Marsden cancer hospital, one of Princess Diana's favorite charities. The second-in-line to the British throne has served as the hospital's president since 2007.

"I am enormously grateful to Ralph Lauren for his generosity, and to all of you who so kindly support the hospital," William said in his speech. "You should know that what you do saves lives and gives hope to thousands of people."

Later, the duke said (via Us Weekly) it was "a wonderful thing" that Lauren was backing the "great addition to the hospital." However, he did apologize for his fashionable wife's absence -- Catherine was busy tending to their son, Prince George.

"I'm sorry my wife's not here," he said (via People) when he introduced the designer in the castle's Grand Reception Room. "You probably would far rather [see] my wife."

Lauren, who attended the event with wife Ricky Anne Loew-Beer, dressed several of the celebrities for the event, including "Harry Potter" star Emma Watson and Oscar winner Cate Blanchett.

After the reception, the 230-person party moved to the castle's ornate St. George's Hall for a lavish three-course dinner set across two long tables, the Daily Mail reported.

"The King's Speech" actress Helena Bonham Carter also showed her support and said that these events were crucial to raising awareness and funds to fight cancer.

"It requires a huge amount of money to come up with a cure for cancer," she said. "We now live in times when it doesn't mean death, a lot of people are living with the disease. It's very different from when I was a child, the C word was taboo. Hopefully, for my children, it will be a thing of the past."

Carter also noted that she had met the duke in the past when she was vacationing in the Caribbean.

"The duke and I met before, along with the Duchess, before they were married, when I was staying on Mustique," the actress said. "I got very drunk at one point and I was determined to ask him to be a godfather to my daughter. He quite wisely said no."

The actress, who has long been linked to director Tim Burton, said that she admired the prince and that "he has got the same grace as both his parents."

When model Kate Moss, the queen of the catwalk, met the prince, she also asked about his wife's whereabouts -- rather flirtatiously, according to the Daily Mail. When he said Catherine wasn't there, Moss replied, "Such a shame."

"Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch said that he felt "guilty" that he chatted with the prince for so long.

"He is just a stand-up guy," said the "Hobbit" actor. "I completely forgot to ask him how he got over his jet lag from his trip to Australia, because I was there at the same time and I saw all the commotion when he went to Sydney Opera House."

The duke and duchess wrapped up their highly publicized three-week tour of New Zealand and Australia last month.

Cumberbatch added that he hoped the evening would get the Royal Marsden on people's radar.

"That's what we're here for," he said. "Cancer isn't a disease that needs much awareness, but it does need continued funding for research."

Also in attendance were Victoria's Secret model Cara Delevingne, "Downton Abbey's" Laura Carmichael, Allen Leech and Lily James, "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner, "The Wolf of Wall Street's" Margot Robbie and photographer Mario Testino, among many others.

Taylor Swift: Prince William has karaoke 'star quality'

The Duke of Cambridge is a karaoke king with ''star quality'', according to American pop star Taylor Swift.

William shared a microphone with country singer Swift, 24, as the pair joined Jon Bon Jovi on stage for a rendition of Livin' On A Prayer at a charity function last year.

Footage of the unlikely collaboration at Kensington Palace went viral after the duo were beckoned on stage to belt out the rock classic.

Swift, who has enjoyed UK chart success with We Are Never Getting Back Together, said the royal possessed surprising vocal qualities.

She told the Mail on Sunday's Event magazine: ''Both of us were more screaming than singing.

''But even through all that I could hear his voice and it is pretty good. A nice tone.

''I'd definitely say he's got star quality, and if he ever wants me to sing with him again, I'll be there.''

The Stateside singer, previously romantically linked with pop stars including One Direction's Harry Styles, described how William was initially reluctant to join the veteran rocker on stage.

She said the frontman jokingly enlisted the audience to ''put pressure'' on the royal to sing.

Swift, who is in England to play several dates at London's O2 Arena, said: ''Prince William looked at me and said, 'I'll do it if you do it too', and then he took my hand.

''I was surprised and flattered and it felt surreal and completely natural at the same time.

''We jumped on the stage and started to sing and then we were really yelling.

''I still can't believe I've sung with Prince William.''

Taylor Swift Looks Royally Stunning When She Meets Prince William in London

Taylor Swift looked more like a royal family member than most of the British Royal Family while attending the Winter White Gala at Kensington Palace Tuesday evening.

Dressed in a gorgeous white gown, Taylor looked very much like a princess when she greeted Prince William shortly before performing for the 200-person audience during the charity dinner.

"I'm really excited," she said during a radio interview with BBC Radio 2 about the performance.

"I'm really stoked. It's the first royal engagement I've done and I'm very, very honored.''

Of course, Taylor admitted that she's been catching up on etiquette skills so that she's fully prepared and doesn't make an ass out of herself when she's around the royal family.

"I think I'm just really safe if I just shake hands and be polite," the "Red" singer explained.

"I think that's being presumptuous in assuming I'll meet them, so first I'm going to be polite enough to not assume I'll meet them.''

This specific charity event was set up to raise money for Centrepoint, a charity providing housing and a range of other services to young homeless people in the U.K. Taylor was actually an awesome fit for the event because she's currently looking to buy a house in London!

The One Thing Taylor Swift Is Researching Before She Meets Prince William

Taylor Swift has met nearly ever celebrity in Nashville and Hollywood, but even she has butterflies about her first brush with royalty come next month.

“I’m really excited. I’m going to be playing at the Winter Whites Gala at Kensington, so I’m really stoked,” the winner of the CMA’s Pinnacle Award told BBC 2 Radio Wednesday. “This is my first, like, thing I’ve performed at for any kind of royal engagement and I’m very, very honored.”

The Winter Whites Gala will take place at Royal Albert Hall, and Prince William is said to be attending. Members of the public can buy tickets, and all proceeds will benefit the charity that the prince and Kate Middleton support, Centrepoint, which supports homeless young people.

But Swift, 23, admitted that she has been “asking” around about the protocol for greeting members of the royal family.

“I think I’m just really safe if I just like, shake hands and be polite,” she said.

Throwback Thursday: See Taylor Swift as a Little Girl!

Then, when pressed to discuss what she planned to call the prince, she admitted that she wasn’t sure.

“See, I think that’s being presumptuous in that, assuming I’ll meet them,” she explained. “I think first I would just be polite enough to not assume I’m going to get to meet them.”

TOP PICK: First Official Family Photo of Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince George

Aww! Proud parents Kate Middleton and Prince William are absolutely glowing in the official first family photo, which was released by the palace today.

In the photo, Prince George's sweet little face can clearly be seen, but it looks like the little guy slept through the photo shoot.

Their dog Lupo, however, appears to be super enthusiastic about the whole thing and seems super proud to be posing with the fam.

One thing we really love about this photo is how relaxed William and Kate look, which, according to People magazine, was important to them.

According to their source, William and Kate felt that the "best way to capture the couple in a relaxed manner" was to have a family member take the pics, so Kate's father Michael snapped the photos.

If you're wondering who the other dog in the photo is (far left), that's the Middleton family dog Tilly, who was clearly also captured in a "relaxed manner."

In the second photo (below), only the Prince, the Duchess and Duke of Cambridge are pictured.

We have to say, we love everything about both of these photos and we're having a hard time deciding which one we like best! Then again, who said we have to?

The Royal Baby's Name Revealed: George Alexander Louis

Kate Middleton and Prince William have often been called the "modern monarchs," so it doesn't come as much of a surprise that we learned the identity of their son (previously known as "the Royal baby") on Twitter.

According to the official Clarence House Twitter, "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their son George Alexander Louis."

In a follow-up tweet, they included his official title, saying, "The baby will be known as His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge."

Kate and William welcomed their son on July 22 and when they left the hospital on July 23, William said they were still deciding on a name.

His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge has already been a busy baby in his first two days of life. He's had many distinguished visitors and there were hundreds of reporters waiting to see him when he made his first public appearance outside the hospital the day after his birth.

Today, he is already out and about and left Kensington Palace earlier in the day to visit his maternal grandparents at their house in Buckleberry.

We're sure this is just the beginning of a very busy life for little George Alexander Louis!

What do you think of the name that Kate and William picked for their son?

TOP PICK: Royal Baby Update: Kate Middleton and Prince William Prepare for Birth

Kate Middleton's due date is fast approaching, with mention that we could see the birth of Kate and Prince William's royal baby on July 13, according to some reports.

Other reports peg Kate's due date as July 11...but then again, babies have their own timetable, so the little royal could arrive earlier or later.

Here's a rundown of the preparations underway for Kate and William's first baby, who will officially be called His Royal Highness Prince [First Name] of Cambridge or Her Royal Highness Princess [First Name] of Cambridge, depending on the baby's gender:

When William is away on duty with the Royal Air Force, a helicopter is on stand-by, at the ready to whisk him to Kate's side when she needs him.

William is playing polo this weekend, which has some royal baby watchers a bit nervous that he won't be available when the baby is ready.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reportedly will embark on a royal baby tour in 2014, according to Us Magazine.

The birth announcement will be placed in a frame on an easel behind the gates of Buckingham Palace.

It's likely the official announcement will be made on Twitter as well.

After the birth is announced, William will likely make a statement outside the hospital and celebratory gun salutes will be sounded in Green Park and at the Tower of London.

When they leave St. Mary's Hospital, Catherine is expected to show the first glimpse of the royal newborn on the steps, as Princess Diana did when William was born.

William is set to take a two-week paternity leave before returning to the Royal Air Force.

The couple and newborn will spend time between London and Kate's parents' home in Berkshire, before the family moves to Kensington Palace in September.

Names? Nannies? Nurseries? All Your Will & Kate Royal Baby Questions Answered!

A royal birth is almost upon us, and no, we're not talking about the one just cooked up by Kim Kardashian. We're sure that North West is all kinds of cute, but, even with the inevitable title that Lord Disick will bestow, that tot won't actually be in line for the British throne.

The son or daughter of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, however, sure will.

By the way, fun fact: It's been nearly 31 years since the world has greeted a fresh prince or princess of England. We've been fielding plenty of questions about how such arrivals might differ from, you know, your typical birthing process. Turns out, that, even as a newborn, royal babies are not just like us.

We wrangled a couple of royals experts, including British entertainment reporter and royals watcher Adora Olehn, and Dr. Elisabeth Cawthon, a British history and royal family expert at The University of Texas at Arlington. The result: This Burning Q&A!

What will Will and Kate name their baby?
And there is the million-pound question, perhaps literally. British betting shops have crunched the odds on names ranging from the reasonable Edward to long shots such as Adele or Elvis.
For a girl, oddsmakers like the sound of Alexandra. Queen Victoria's given name was Alexandrina, and, as Cawthon points out, King Edward, who ruled in the early 20th century, had a very respected wife named Alexandra.

Where will the baby be born?
Kate will follow in the footsteps of her late mother-in-law, Diana, who birthed both princes in the private Lindo wing of St. Mary's, Paddington, in London.

Unlike secret births of past royals, the public will be informed once the laboring Kate has arrived at the hospital and is safely in her room, according to a palace rep.

What are the rules about giving birth? Will the queen be there?
"Never," Olehn tells me, laughing. "Never the queen. She's really coming on [in years]. She's in her 80s now. But I am sure they will be waiting with bated breath."

Hundreds of years ago, it wasn't uncommon for a royal birthing suite to be stuffed with foreign dignitaries and political cronies. Today? Not so much. More likely, the Duchess of Cambridge will have a small number of people in attendance when she delivers. "I would imagine her mother and Prince William, as well as the people who have been working with her to prepare her for the birth."

Indeed, a palace spokesperson confirmed this week that William "fully intends to be present at the birth." (The prince is planning to take his allotted two weeks of paternity leave from his helicopter-piloting gig.) The Middletons are expected to visit, but the queen will be summering at her Scottish getaway, Balmoral, and will not return for her great-grandchild's big debut.

Gynecologist Marcus Setchell will be in charge of extracting the babe from the royal womb.

Will there be a baby shower?
Probably not.

"The idea of a baby shower before a baby is born is not very common in England, and certainly not to royals, who place a lot of value on that etiquette," Cawthon tells me.

What kinds of gifts are appropriate?
Historically, we're looking at a lot of silver, "engraved with the baby's name — a baby rattle, or cup," Cawthon tells me. That said: Please, please do not send the royals a present.

"I would argue that they are going to give very strong hints to the public, if not a direct statement, 'Don't send anything, we don't need anything, it's inappropriate for people who don't have as much money as we do to be sending gifts,'" Cawthon dishes. "If they allowed anything at all, it would be a charitable donation."

Where will the baby be raised?
Olehn says the couple eventually plans to raise the baby in Kensington Palace, which is being renovated to accompany them. The fact that these parents want to raise their own child may seem like a no-brainer, but in previous centuries, royal kids were sometimes given their own households, miles away from London, before they were out of diapers.

What is the appropriate way to address the baby?
The queen has already decreed that the child will be known as Royal Highness, though, in the past, baby princes and princesses have been known as Right Honorable.

"He or she will have a title eventually," Cawthon notes — say, duchess or earl. But remember, such official titles don't often come until a royal nuptial; William himself wasn't dubbed a Duke until the eve of his wedding to Kate Middleton.

Will there be a christening?
Oh heck yes. Traditionally, the crowned heads of Britain are also the leaders — actually, make that Supreme Governors — of the Church of England. And there's no reason to believe that Will and Kate will separate their baby from that practice.
"A royal christening has both a private and a political aspect," Cawthon says. "It is seen as privilege of the Archbishop of Canterbury to preside over that, if he wants to, and it highlights the role of the heir to the throne as the future head of the Anglican church."

As for timing, Cawthon tells me this:

"Historically, it's depended on the health of the child. If a child were born deathly ill, the christening would happen immediately. There are historical examples of this. But in general, a month or two after birth is the norm, though there have been cases of christenings happening six, seven, eight or nine months after, depending on schedules."

Will there be nannies? What about ladies in waiting if it's a girl?
The answer to both questions is, probably. "William and Kate want to be very hands-on parents," Olehn notes, but William and Harry also had a nanny.

As for ladies in waiting, "those are socially important offices — political rewards," Cawthon says. "They're too important not to be bestowed on someone right away."

Will there be play dates?
When Queen Elizabeth was a kid, her minders had to bring little friends to the palace for play dates, Cawthon says. Today? Not so much. You can expect the royal child to actually leave Kensington palace for things like school and, yes, play dates.

How will they announce the birth?
"There are some choices that really might surprise us about this royal modern couple," Cawthon concludes. "I doubt they will break with every aspect of tradition, but they might shake things up a bit."
And so it shall be.

Per the royal rep, the tidings will go down something like this: an aide will take a physical copy of the birth bulletin, on a Buckingham Palace-stamped scroll no less, and then be escorted by royal coterie to the palace, where it will be posted on ye olde special stand erected for such Important Public Announcements. That's the old-fashiony portion.

To make sure the rest of the world finds out in a timely manner, there will be a simultaneous Twitter blast and press email alerting the universe of the tyke's gender, weight, and time of birth.

We can hardly wait.

Prince William loses a penalty shootout to a 13-year-old

There's nothing as quintessentially English as being terrible at penalties.

During his tour of the Solomon Islands with the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William upheld the principles of the Land of Hope and Glory by being really quite terrible at spot kicks. The Guardian reports:

[Prince William] stepped up to take three penalties as hundreds of locals looked on, warning: "This could go just about anywhere."

Prince William tucked his first penalty into the bottom-right corner but then quipped "here we go again" as two shots were saved by Philemon Fatai, 13, who said afterwards: "He's good — but not as good as me."

Thankfully, after the event Prince William didn't resort to crying like John Terry or making Pizza Hut commercials like Gareth Southgate and Stuart Pearce.

While visiting the British Commonwealth islands, however, Wills did take the time to recruit some new fans for his favorite team Aston Villa. (Trying to sell the inhabitants of a tropical Pacific island on the virtues of a team from Birmingham which narrowly avoided relegation last year is no easy feat, so the royal penalty fluffer should be commended for his endeavor.)

Prince William also revealed to locals that his wife Kate — who remained fully clothed in case any French paparazzi were within a five-mile radius — is "not so keen on the football."
