One Direction wins big at Kids Choice

Boy band One Direction and Twilight actress Kristen Stewart have both picked up two trophies at the Kids' Choice Awards.

Stewart won favourite movie actress and the female butt-kicker award, while One Direction were named favourite music group and favourite UK band.

The LA ceremony also carried on its 'gunging' tradition, with Stewart and actress Sandra Bullock both getting covered in green slime.

Johnny Depp also turned out for the awards, which were hosted by kids' channel Nickelodeon.

The 49-year-old was named best movie actor for his role in comedy-horror flick Dark Shadows.

But despite being one of the big winners, One Direction - whose first two albums have both gone straight to the top of the US charts - did not turn up.

Nickelodeon has promoted the popular children's awards in recent years by including 15 regional voting sites with their own categories.

The channel claims more than 300 million kids voted for the winners and it was expecting around 350 million households to tune in.

Olympic bronze-medal diver Tom Daley was one of the UK regional winners at the event. He picked up favourite UK sports star.

Other winners on the night included Justin Bieber (favourite male singer), Katy Perry (favourite female singer) and The Hunger Games (favourite movie).

Kristen Stewart, Selena Gomez among Kids' Choice Awards winners

The self-described "messfest” of Nickelodeon’s annual Kids’ Choice Awards happened in Los Angeles on Saturday. Hosted by Josh Duhamel at the Galen Center at USC, the awards were decided by 387 million votes cast from 22 countries around the world.

The prize may be a bright orange trophy in the shape of a blimp, but the show’s real signature is the green slime regularly dumped on participants. After a musical number with singers Christina Aguilera and Pitbull, Aguilera triggered a dousing of Pitbull and their backup dancers. Duhamel was among those who got it good during the ceremony as well, along with Amanda Seyfried, Nick Cannon, Josh Hutcherson and Dwight Howard.

Sandra Bullock and Neil Patrick Harris were likewise drenched in the green goo while presenting the award for favorite movie actress. Winner Kristen Stewart, recognized for her role in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 2,” joined in by hugging Bullock, getting messy in the process. Stewart also won the prize for favorite female buttkicker for her role in “Snow White and the Huntsman."

Other film winners included Johnny Depp, who attended but was not slimed, as favorite movie actor for “Dark Shadows.” Favorite movie went to “The Hunger Games,” with “Wreck-It Ralph” winning favorite animated movie. Favorite voice from an animated movie went to Adam Sandler for “Hotel Transylvania,” and Dwayne Johnson won favorite male buttkicker for “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.”

Selena Gomez won favorite TV actress for her role on “Wizards of Waverly Place” on the same weekend her buzz-heavy film “Spring Breakers” was opening nationwide. Other television winners were “Victorious” for favorite TV show, “Wipeout” for favorite reality show, “SpongeBob SquarePants” for favorite cartoon and Ross Lynch from “Austin & Ally” for favorite TV actor.

Music awards went to One Direction for favorite music group, Justin Bieber for favorite male singer and Katy Perry for favorite female singer. One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” won favorite song.

LeBron James was named favorite male athlete, and Danica Patrick was recognized as favorite female athlete. Simon Cowell of “The X Factor” was named favorite villain. “The Hunger Games” series won favorite book, “Just Dance 4” won favorite video game and “Temple Run” was named favorite app.

Kids Choice Awards 2011: Taylor Swift vs. Katy Perry

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift will go head to head for Favorite Female Singer tonight at the Kids Choice Awards 2011.

Tonight at the Kids Choice Awards 2011 one of the most competitive categories has to be Favorite Female Singer because it is four very popular ladies in it. The nominees are: Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift is a one woman machine in the industry. Her album set records for sales, her tour has sold out in minutes and she is clearly the biggest, most popular act in music right now. Her confessional style of country music seasoned with pop sensibility appeals to many and her honest, raw voice will be looked back on as one of the great voices of her generation.

Katy Perry just keeps cranking out the hits. There was no sophomore slump for this beauty as her second record is arguably bigger, better and more popular than her first. With her recent marriage to actor/comedian Russell Brand and wild sense of style and fashion she has also become a pop culture favorite. Will she win big tonight at the Kids Choice Awards 2011?

Selena Gomez has really come into her own during the last year. She has always been popular on Disney with her show Wizards of Waverly Place, but this year also saw her release her newest album A Year Without Rain which had a more grown up, mature sound. With this record we also saw Selena go from being the cute kid on the show that can sing to a beautiful young woman who has a major career in front of her.

Perhaps none of the Kids Choice Awards 2011 nominees have had as interesting of a year as Miley Cyrus. She saw her long running hugely popular show Hannah Montana come to an end, she dipped her foot into the Hollywood waters as she acted in movies and she released a new album. But that didn’t come without controversy. Leaked video of her smoking a bong (although with supposedly a legal substance in it) and a couple of music videos that showed Miley wearing very little being provocative left some of her fans feeling a little put off. Add in the problems her family has with her parents separating then getting back together and her constant scrutiny by the press and paparazzi and it is easy to say that Miley has had a year of ups and downs. She is a veteran of this category having been nominated three times and winning twice.

The Kids Choice Awards 2011 all come down to the fans voting so it will be interesting to see who wins. To me this one is two woman race between Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift. Will the fans show Miley the love and show her that they still love her even with the controversy or will Taylor nation just keep rolling? My pick is Taylor Swift. Right now she is the hottest thing in music and can’t be stopped. She is also the reigning champ in this category so I think we will see repeat.

Tune in tonight at 8PM to watch the Kids Choice Awards 2011 to check out all the awards, find out who gets slimed and see if Taylor Swift repeats as Favorite Female Singer.

Nick Jonas: Vote for Kevin at the KCAs!

Nick Jonas may be nominated for Favorite TV Actor at the 2011 Kids Choice Awards — but he’s hoping there’s a write in vote and win for big brother Kevin.

The 18-year-old musician told MTV, “As far as the best actor nomination goes, I’m really shocked by that. As far as the acting thing goes I’m still learning. I don’t know if I’ll win it. I hope I do. Maybe the fans will vote for us.”

Nick continued, “It’s always funny with me and Joe, it kind of splits the vote a bit and so maybe just vote for Kevin. I think no matter if Joe or I did win, I’d be like, ‘I think Kevin’s the funniest actor out of all of us. He deserves this.’”

WHO DO YOU THINK is the best actor — Nick, Joe or Kevin?
