Joe Jonas’ Ayala Malls tour starts on Saturday

Pop star Joe Jonas would be shocked if Jessica Sanchez doesn’t win “American Idol.”
Speaking to the local media last Wednesday at the InterContinental Hotel in Makati City, Jonas said he found Sanchez “so talented.” He added: “She’ll have an amazing career ahead of her.”

A duet with Jessica?

The 22-year-old musician and actor said he was not following the current season of “Idol,” but his 10-year-old brother Frankie prodded him to watch Sanchez in the program. And when he did, he said he was “so impressed” with the Filipino-Mexican-American finalist. “We should do a song together,” he suggested.

Jonas—a member of the pop-rock group Jonas Brothers—is in Manila to promote his solo album “Fastlane” via a tour of different Ayala Malls in the country. He’s also working on a promotional campaign for local clothing brand Bench.

Although it’s Jonas’ first time here, he said he’s been wanting to visit the country: “I have a few friends from the States who are Filipinos. I’ve heard quite a lot about the Philippines and been wanting to come and see the whole place.”

He’s likewise glad about being “the first Jonas to be able to come,” and can’t wait to come back home to “brag to my brothers about the trip. I love your country already and I’m looking forward to spending more time here.”

The Arizona native will definitely see more of the Philippines when he brings his music to mallgoers. He has already promoted “Fastlane” in different parts of South America and Europe, and said he’s excited to share his songs with his Filipino fans.

Although a solo album, “Fastlane” still bears influences from his brothers Kevin and Nick, Jonas said. The trio formed the hugely popular teenybopper band Jonas Brothers which headlined several Disney projects.

About his album, Jonas said: “I think it’s a little bit of what me and my brothers wrote and a little bit of me. I’m still continuing to discover the kind of sound that I would like to continue to make. Kevin loves country music. Nick loves old school … Elvis Costello … and funky music. I love dance music … R&B … different styles of music.”

“Fastlane,” which went to No. 15 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart, got the nod of critics, with “Entertainment Weekly” saying “the JoBro lead heartthrob sheds teen-pop tremors for sensitive guy-cool on this sultry midtempo torch song”—referring to Jonas’ collaboration with Chris Brown on “See No More.”

Aside from “See No More,” the album contains 11 other tracks, including “Just in Love” which debuted at No. 2 on the iTunes video chart.

Jonas performs at the following Ayala Malls: TriNoma Activity Center today, 4 p.m., and at the Greenbelt 3 Park at 7 p.m; Alabang Town Center Corte de las Palmas tomorrow, 7 p.m.; and Ayala Center Cebu Activity Center, May 27, 3 p.m.

Taylor Swift Dismisses Songs About Her as 'All Good Fun'

Taylor Swift has made a not-so-small fortune by addressing ex-boyfriends in her songs, but what happens when the author becomes the subject? Taylor dished with New York deejay Elvis Duran about the possibility of a few tunes being directed towards her.

"There is one ... two ... three," counts the 'Mean' singer. "Those are the ones that have been speculated." She adds, "It's all good fun though. It's music going back and forth. It's fueled by heartbreak and real stories and real things. That's what keeps music authentic."

One rumored track is 'See No More,' the debut solo single from Joe Jonas, one-third of the Jonas Brothers and ex-flame of the country music superstar. The pop singer released an accompanying music video last month featuring a pale dress hung against a bare well, a speculated referential symbol of Taylor's signature wardrobe style. Although the singer gives no confirmation, he admits to Tiger Beat Bop that he used past relationships as a muse for his debut solo album.

"I think all artists have a right to write about what happens to them," Joe says, giving a possible nod to Taylor's skilled verbal tactics. "But, I have a right to write about things too."

Despite any lyrical daggers thrown in her direction, Taylor admits she is continually overwhelmed by the encouraging words and support from her fans and peers.

"For me, there is a reset button when someone says something nice to me," admits the humble singer. "Every time someone says something nice to you, it's a new thing. It's something to really appreciate ... I'm never going to feel entitled to success."

How does the global superstar remain grounded amidst the critical assaults and tabloid rumors that come with the territory of the job? Taylor credits her family for her outlook.

"A great deal of it is how you're raised and how your family encourages you to be," Taylor admits. "Another big part of it is keeping your priorities in the right place. And why you got here in the first place and why you wanted to be here ... to make music. It's all keeping a healthy prospective of what your life and what normal is."

After some much-needed downtime following a bout with bronchitis, Taylor has resumed her Speak Now world tour.

Joe Jonas is booed, has balls pelted at his face, during 'See No More' performance in Williamsburg

We bet Joe Jonas wants to "See No More" of Williamsburg.

The middle Jonas brother got a rough reception in Brooklyn's hipster capital on Wednesday night when audience members at the Paper magazine party pelted him with mini-basketballs and greeted his performance with a mixture of derision and stony silence.

The 21-year-old Jo-Bro — who's attempting to cultivate a more grownup, Timberlake-ian image with his first solo album, "Fast Life," was definitely not living the dream when he opened for Swizz Beatz at the House of Vans in Billyburg.

Unless it was a nightmare.

Save for a group of adoring girls at the front of the crowd, Jonas did not encounter very much love from the hard-core Williamsburg crowd in their frayed jeans, acid-washed tanks, jean vests and oversize eyeglass frames.

The booing and jeering began as soon as the Disney TV star and his four backup singers took to the stage to perform five songs from Jonas' new album and engage in a bit of awkward dancing.

And it lasted a lot longer than Jonas' infamous 27-second break-up phone call with Taylor Swift.

Audience members were even targeting Jonas with green Nerf-style mini-basketballs that Corona beer, one of the night's sponsors, had handed out to partygoers.

At one point in the performance, we watched two dudes standing in front of us peg Jonas in the face with their balls. They also nailed one of his backup singers, who wore a cobalt-colored blazer and a cheese-tastic cockatoo-like coif. (Given the outfit, we didn't feel so bad for that guy.)

While a security guard pulled the troublemakers aside, Jonas, to his credit, ignored the air assault and soldiered on like a true pro.

Not that the crowd gave him any credit for sucking it up. They mostly just stared — and we cringed – when Jonas attempted to engage them by shrieking, "How you guys doing tonight? Let's have fun! Lemme see them drinks in the air!"

The hostile hipsters didn't even react when Jonas showed off his newly sculpted torso by taking off his blazer to reveal a tight tank top.

The teen idol seemed a little deflated by the time he and the backup singers wrapped up their part of the show by performing his current single, "See No More." Jonas co-wrote the track with Chris Brown, who also performs backing vocals on the recording. Too bad Brown wasn't in the house to lend some support on Wednesday night.

After his performance, Jonas remained backstage to watch Swizz Beatz's show.

Beatz, by contrast, had the room jumping and singing along.

Joe Jonas Haunted By Former Love In 'See No More' Video

It feels like Joe Jonas has grown up right in front of us. And now Jonas is showing his mature side in his first-ever solo video for his single "See No More," as the middle Jonas Brother pines over a former love in the haunting video.

Set in an empty house, Joe sits and looks at his former love's belongings (her dress, her shoes), as he sings about how hurt he feels. He croons, "I don't wanna wait for you/ I don't wanna wake up thinkin', hopin'/ You'll get it right this time/ 'Cause you know that you're so cold/ I don't wanna see no more/ And I can't get away from you."

Scenes of him looking around the place they once shared are cut with clips of a young woman, presumably the same one who broke his heart, dancing in the street.

Perhaps a nod to Drew Barrymore's classic "Firestarter" (or maybe not), as Jonas looks around the house, all of the belongings begin to catch fire. Eventually his torment (and the danger of being in a house filled with flames) leads him away from his home as he walks through the smoke-filled streets of his abandoned suburban neighborhood. Things begin to blow up around him, representing a failed relationship. Her image begins to fade out as he looks around the charred house.

Jonas worked on the midtempo breakup track with Chris Brown and Brian Kennedy, and that collaboration is evidenced by the song's clear nods to pop 'n' b. Before the video even dropped, Jonas was clear that he wanted the visuals to match the emotional drive of the song. "I think it's more so about how the emotions and the feelings that you are going through and how you're dealing with them and just displaying them in physical actions," he shared. "So it'll be the first really thought-out video that I've done."

The song is the lead single off Jonas' solo album, Fast Life, which is set for release on September 6.
