Kate Winslet, the Oscar-winning mother of three who got her start in Hollywood at a fairly young age, is a little worried about Miley Cyrus.
"You hear horror stories where you think, 'God, who's looking after these people and why does it seem like they're losing their way?'" Winslet reportedly told Psychologies magazine (via The Independent). "I mean, you think about someone like Miley Cyrus, and I said to my daughter the other day, 'I'm this close to opening my mouth about what's going on with that girl.' Who is actually saying, 'Stop for a second. What do you want, who are you?'"
Winslet compared Cyrus' fame-laden upbringing to her own, saying she's "just been very lucky that I've always been quite comfortable with who I am." Winslet, who started her career on television, nabbed her breakout role in 1992, when she was cast in Peter Jackson's acclaimed "Heavenly Creatures." She rose through a steady wave of success to the top of the Hollywood ladder throughout the rest of the '90s, earning her first Oscar nomination in 1995 for "Sense and Sensibility."
Now, at the age of 38, Winslet joins a chorus of celebrities who've chimed in on Cyrus' youthful antics. Cher, Sinead O'Connor, P!nk, Annie Lennox, Elton John and Joan Rivers are among the stars who've expressed their concern over Cyrus' raunchy career moves during the past year.
Winslet attributes the culture of social media to Cyrus' intensifying salaciousness, labeling today's atmosphere a "nightmare" for young stars.
"It's really rough now," Winslet said. "I think, for young actors, actresses and pop stars, it's a nightmare. They can't do anything. I'm so not going near that whole world -- I don't need it. I do feel incredibly lucky."
