Greyson Chance Tells 'Truth': Eyes Two Releases in 2013

After laying low for much of the year, Greyson Chance is gearing up for a very busy 2013. The 15-year-old Oklahoma native, who burst onto the scene in April 2010 with his viral cover of Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi," will release the "Truth Be Told part 1" EP in January, and if things work out, his second full length album by year's end.

"I'm gonna put out the EP first and promote the heck out of that and then hopefully put out the full record, which is part two," he tells Billboard. "So I'm looking to put out the second part in 2013. I'm just gonna be touring a lot and promoting and singing my heart out."

Chance wrote all the new songs -- a "big step" he says. "I had to kind of find the new Greyson and channel him to this new record," he tells us. "So, finally I did it."

On Dec. 31, Chance will perform his new single "Sunshine & City Lights" for the first time on U.S. TV on ABC's "Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve."

"It's crazy! This is the show that you put on for New Year's… it's sad that [Dick Clark] is gone, but we're keeping the show alive, so it's really great."

Posted in April 2010, the video of Chance performing "Paparazzi" at his middle school has garnered close to 50 million YouTube views. It led to instant fame for the singer, who was taken under Ellen DeGeneres' wing and signed to the talk show host's fledgling record label eleveneleven.

Released in August 2011, Chance's first album "Hold On 'Til the Night" debuted and peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard 200. It spent six weeks on the tally and has sold 84,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. His biggest selling song is "Waiting Outside the Lines," which has moved 183,000.

ABC's "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on Monday (Dec. 31) with a two-hour tribute to the late Dick Clark. At 10, host Ryan Seacrest takes over in Times' Square with performances set from Justin Bieber, OneRepublic, Jason Aldean, The Wanted, Brandy and many others. Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas will host the festivities in Los Angeles.

Greyson Chance Returns To Manila, Professes ‘Liking’ Pinoy Music Lovers

It’s visit number three here for teen sensation Greyson Chance who cited the biggest reason he keeps returning: “I just really like the people here.”

He added in a report aired on “24 Oras,” Nov 12: “I think you guys are really passionate and you love music.”

Recall that Greyson gained renown for his YouTube video performance of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi.” Greyson is in Manila to promote his latest EP album titled “Truth Be Told.”

“It’s very different. I think people soon think it’s about love, but to me the EP was about ah, you know, lots of different things. There is definitely love influence in there but I don’t necessarily think its love or just having those feelings for somebody,” he said of his latest work.

Asked about Charice whom he had worked with in the past on the duet “Waiting Outside The Line,” Greyson heaped praises on her.

“She was just so great and so sweet, and God, her voice was so incredible.”

Greyson is interested in working with half Pinay Jessica Sanchez, too.

“She’s also in my mind and I’m excited to hear her music,” he said.

By the time this comes out, Greyson had already left the country but not without leaving a message to his Filipino fans,

“Mabuhay, Philippines! I could say ‘Mahal ko kayo’ and then I could say ‘Mahal na mahal ko kayo,’” said he in a show of his knowledge of Tagalog.

Greyson encourages the youth to “keep your head up and don’t let people classify you just because you’re young. Go for the dreams no matter what they are.”

YouTube singing sensation Greyson Chance says he’s no Justin Bieber

As he lounges on a leather loveseat, styled hair flicked casually over his forehead and a confident smile at the ready, Greyson Chance is no longer the nervous 12-year-old boy making small talk with Ellen DeGeneres.

Two years ago, the now 15-year-old burst onto the music scene after his cover of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi caught the talk show host’s attention and then went viral on YouTube. Now, countless television appearances and a record deal later, the Oklahoma native is hitting the road on a solo tour, with a stop Wednesday at the PNE.

“Everything has changed,” said Chance, who performed as part of the fair’s WestJet Family Fun Series. “I’m constantly travelling now, I’m performing and writing music all the time. I’m an artist.”

The funny thing, he says, is that he never intended any of this to happen.

In April 2010, Chance was filmed playing the piano and singing at his school talent show. He picked Paparazzi because the song was “an oddball choice.” At that point, he’d had three years of classical piano lessons and no vocal training, but in the video — which has over 48 million hits — a young audience is seen erupting into smiles and hushed whispers as Chance starts singing, putting his own spin on the pop hit.

“That song is so eclectic,” he said. “Nobody would have put two and two together ... It was so different and I think that’s why people hung on to it.”

That year, Chance’s cover video was the third most popular video on YouTube.

Since then, the singer has appeared on Ellen a staggering eight times, toured North America with iCarly’s Miranda Cosgrove and Cody Simpson and performed for President Barack Obama. Chance, who recently released the single Hold On ‘Til The Night, is preparing to launch a new, self-written album the coming months.

“It’s very organic,” said Chance of his new album. “There’s a maturity to it that’s off the cuff. It’s very full of stories.”

Most importantly, people have finally stopped comparing him to YouTube trailblazer Justin Bieber. With similar windswept locks and legions of female fans, Chance says he understands why people do it, but says they are very different people.

“He’s a super nice guy and we’re both close to the same age, but we sing completely different kinds of music,” he said.

Judging from the excitement and anticipation of hundreds of fans gathered in front of the PNE stage an hour before his set, it’s clear that whatever Chance is doing is working.

Gunash Solmaz first heard of Chance after she saw him perform at a Simpson concert in Seattle last year. She says she likes Justin Bieber just fine, but Chance’s songwriting abilities stand out.

“I think they’re both talented, but I really like the way Greyson writes his music and puts it together,” said the 15-year-old. “I love how he puts so much thought into his music ... I love how he can play the piano.”

Chance says it’s a good thing he strayed from classical piano to pop songs. And the young musician, who says taking his own path just comes naturally, has some advice for wannabe young stars.

“Don’t try to follow somebody’s lead,” Chance says. “If you’re trying to force things, I don’t think it works a lot of the time. Sometimes, things just happen.”

Greyson Chance gives behind-the-scenes look at wild rehearsals

So when he teases a photo of “rehearsals gone wild,” we just have to have a quick peek at the debauchery.

Red Bull? Who knows, maybe things are really off the hook and it’s his second can.

Shane Harper Dishes On Carly Rae Jepsen, Greyson Chance and Cody Simpson!

2012 is definitely looking on the up and up for Shane Harper!

Not only did the Good Luck Charlie actor released his self-titled debut album last February, but Shane just booked one of the most coveted spots in music this year by opening up for Carly Rae Jepsen later this summer in LA! He recently sat down with Hollywire's own Chelsea Briggs to talk about the opportunity, touring with Greyson Chance and Cody Simpson and even taking his turn in the Hollywire Hot Seat!

Shane still isn't sure how he managed to snag the gig opening up for Carly Rae, but thinks it may have had to do with his recent cover of Call Me Maybe in concert. "After you play for a while, you like to mix things up," he said. "Sometimes we pick covers that we’ve never done before and do them on stage during the performance. We ended up doing Call Me Maybe and a week later (my manager) was like, "You’re opening for her in LA!"

This time around, Shane won't be playing the elder role backstage to 26-year-old Carly Rae -- which he said he did, when touring with Greyson and Cody a few years ago. "I felt like the old guy because they were really young," he said. Greyson was 13 and Cody was 14. They were riding skateboards and I was like, 'You're gonna hurt yourself!' Who knew Shane was a nurterer?!

Shane took his turn in the Hollywire Hot Seat for a round of 20 questions to wrap things up, where he admitted belting out Katy Perry in the shower and revealed that he has a motorcycle license. Hot! Check out our interviews with him and the video for his latest single Dancin' In The Rain!
