37-year-old boxer Floyd Mayweather has a lot of famous friends. 20-year-old pop megastar Justin Bieber is a regular in Mayweather’s corner during fights, and the pair have also taken selfies at parties in Beverly Hills and Clippers games. Mayweather is currently on tour to promote his rematch with Marcos Maidana, and he was offended by a reporter’s question about their relationship.
NBC Chicago’s Peggy Kusinski asked Mayweather if his friendships with people like Johnny Manziel and Justin Bieber were genuine, or if they were just marketing partners. As Mayweather was about to talk about Bieber, Kusinski interrupted:
“People think that’s the oddest matchup, you two together.“
Mayweather responded: “Uh, to me it seems like that’s kind of racial profiling. To me.”
Things got incredibly awkward from there.
“Do you listen? Well, I’m talking about his music.“
“I’m just saying, I mean, why? You don’t know what kind of music I listen to, do you?”
“No, that’s why I asked you.“
“So that’s racial profiling.”
Kusinski laughed about the situation on Twitter.
