Cynthia Erivo is addressing all of the talk about her relationship with Ariana Grande.
During the Wicked press tour in 2024, the two Oscar-nominated actress were very close and were often seen holding hands. This led many to speculate that the two might be a couple.
In a new interview, Cynthia, 39, addressed the hyper-fixation people had on her friendship with Ariana, 32.
Keep reading to find out more…“At first, I think people didn’t understand how it was possible for two women to be friends — close — and not lovers,” Cynthia told Stylist, noting that many assumed her relationship with Ariana was either performative or romantic.
“I’ve never really spoken about this, but there was this strange fascination with the two of us, where people either thought we were putting it on for the cameras or that we were lovers,” she added.
Cynthia then hypothesized that the relationship confused some people because emotional intimacy between women isn’t widely discussed.
“I think it’s because there’s such little conversation around platonic female friendship that is deep and real, even though it exists everywhere,” Cynthia said. “We’re not used to seeing it on camera, in front of people.”
She continued, “A relationship where people are connected sometimes just makes people uncomfortable; we aren’t taught that those relationships are good for us.”
