The Universal sequel to 2024′s Wicked just opened on Friday (November 21), and just as anticipated, it’s making a ton of money already.

The Jon M. Chu-directed film has already brought in $150 million in North America and $226 million worldwide, per THR.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande return as Elphaba and Glinda alongside cast members Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, and Bronwyn James.
The film currently has a 71% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 95% audience score, as well as an A Cinemascore.
It’s now broken several records, including biggest opening for a Broadway musical adaptation, surpassing Wicked‘s $112.5 million, and the third-biggest of all time of any musical, behind 2019’s The Lion King and 2017’s Beauty and the Beast.
It’s now the second-biggest North American opening ever for a Universal movie behind Jurassic World, and the second-best for the weekend before Thanksgiving behind The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
It’s also the second best three day opening of 2025 behind A Minecraft Movie, per THR.
Per The Numbers, the first Wicked has brought in over $756 million, meaning this franchise is about to cross the billion dollar mark.
Wicked: For Good is now the highest-grossing opening ever for a Broadway adaptation globally, and the fifth-biggest opening of all time for any musical, behind The Lion King, Moana 2, Frozen 2 and Beauty and the Beast.
