Demi Lovato: VMAs will be a battle

Demi Lovato acknowledges she faces "fierce competition" at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.

The 20-year-old singer is nominated for the Best Female Video at this year's ceremony.

Demi has just released her new promo for Made in the USA which she co-directed, and says she's excited to be acknowledged for her work in film as well as music this year.

"I think that's amazing. My reaction is just so excited, it's an honour just to be nominated," Demi told MTV News. "And every time I'm nominated for something I get really, really excited. You never know what will happen, but I'm up against some fierce competition so I'm not getting my hopes up."

Demi's is battling Rihanna, Pink and Taylor Swift for the accolade. The singer says there will be no hard feelings if one of her female friends pips her to the post.

"Since I've started in this business, we've all been up against each other, and at the end of the day, it's an award," Demi continued. "If you do win it you get really excited and you're proud of it for the rest of your life, but that's how I feel about it."

For this year's prize giving, artist KAWS has designed a special edition version of the iconic MTV Moonman statue. Demi has picked out the place for her award, should she be crowned the winner.

"In my head I'm like decorating my apartment, and I'm like, 'OK, if I do win, I'll get another Moonman on my mantel," Demi gushed. "I already have the spot picked out so that's if... I already have one so that's good enough for me. It's iconic, there are so many amazing artists that win VMAs and to be amongst those people is incredible. And just the iconic Moonman award, you see it and you're like 'Wow, I grew up watching this and now I have one,' and it's pretty amazing."
