Taylor Swift Makes Grads Feel "22"

My daughter graduated from high school over the weekend. The whole thing was very bittersweet, for me and for her. And at every party we went to, in every car ride we took and basically every other second of the weekend, Taylor Swift's "22" was playing. It was like the one-track soundtrack for the weekend and the next chapter of all these teenagers' lives.

It seemed like every graduate knew every word and loved every minute of the song. I get that. These kids are all about feeling 22, even though they aren't quite there, yet. They're happy, free, confused and lonely at the same time.

But here's the good part: Just as Swift captured that exhilarating joy of independence upon leaving high school, she'd also captured the trepidation of just going to high school. For my daughter (and the entire class of 2013), Swift's "Fifteen" was released the very week she was taking a deep breath and walking through the doors on the morning of her very first day.

So now, I'm just crossing my fingers that Swift can do the same for the next phase. Can she write a song called "29" and put into song all the emotions that kick in once college is over and careers are established and knots are tied and mothers are born?
