They've only been in the pop game since 2010 but just two years later they're molding themselves into the perfect rock stars.
One Direction's Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson got new tattoos in Los Angeles on Thursday.
And their decision comes after fellow band member Harry Styles got a new inking the day before.
The pair visited the Shamrock Tattoo parlour, a favourite spot with soccer star David Beckham, on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood with both singers opting for some new body art on their right arm.
Both Zayn and Louis looked casual during their nighttime visit and emerged from the shop to be greeted by adoring fans and had their new body art covered as they left.
Zayn, who already has a tattoo of a microphone on his arm, looked casual in a white T-shirt with the message 'Cool kids don't dance' emblazoned across the front.
He completed the look with a pair of black jeans while his One Direction co-star Louis wore a striped T-shirt and similar trousers.
While it's unclear what their new arm ink looks like, fellow One Direction singer Harry Styles unveiled his latest tattoo earlier that day.
The star pulled down his top and showed Zayn two identical birds on either side of his upper chest as the pair made their way to a Hollywood television studio for a performance on the US version of The X Factor.
Before getting the animals marked on his chest, Harry showed off two incomplete messages on his arms on Wednesday.
A piece of art on his right forearm states 'Things I can', and one on the left reads 'Things I Can't'.
Harry is said to have originally had the words put on his arm last month but refused to show them off on Irish TV programme The Late Show at the time.
And while Harry seems to be forever adding to his growing collection of tattoos, it's unlikely he'll be getting the name of socialite Peaches Geldof marked on his skin.
He once gave the star a fake number after meeting her at a party.
He told OK magazine: 'She must hate me. If she's reading this, say hello next time you see me, Peaches. I might give you the right number.'
