Zayn Malik showcases comic book style tattoo... that looks like it was drawn by a toddler

Zayn Malik has previously professed his love of tattoos but maybe they're getting too expensive for the boyband star as his new inking looks somewhat homemade.

The 19-year old member of One Direction showed off his new 'ZAP' tattoo - a comic book style inking in London on Sunday as he partied at club Aura.

However, with its thick outline and simplistic style the new ink looked as if it had been crayoned on by a toddler.

Zayn gave the tattoo it's first outing at the MTV VMA Awards back in September, sparking speculation that the colourful design stood for 'Zayn and Perrie', a tribute to his relationship with Little Mix's Perrie Edwards.

But in fact, 'Zap!' is a symbolic reference to the popstar's very own secret society.

In an interview with Nova.fm, Zayn talks about 'Club Zappers' in which he and Louis are captains. The rest of the 1D gang, however, do not have as senior a membership: 'They're a part of club Zap but they're not Captains, they're just on the board of Directors.'

This secret organisation - which arguably is not so secret anymore - along with Zayn's official title in the Zappers indicates the love for comic-books goes beyond mere fashion statements.

Secret groups of superheroes are a prominent feature in both the DC and Marvel Universes although one of the most famous groups happened to be the 'Secret Society of Super Villains'.

Hopefully the 'Captain Zapper' is a force of good rather than evil, but as Zayn's One Direction songs are very light-hearted and poppy, the former is more likely.

His girlfriend has also shown a penchant for retro comics along with her Little Mix band-mate.

Perrie,19, wore a batman cropped T-shirt to a Radio 1 appearance, whilst Jesy Nelson, 21, wore a matching Lazy Oaf bodycon dress.

The blonde singer wore the same T-shirt again when she met Zayn's family, no doubt planting the seed in her boyfriend's mind to show off his own take on comic book fashion.

Joining the Bradford-born singer at the nightclub was band-mate Niall Horan, looking rather under-dressed for the occasion.

Looking more like a P.E. teacher than a popstar, the 19-year old Irish rocked up to the London hotspot in casual trousers, white T-shirt, blue hoody and a faded bomber jacket.

Louis, Liam and Harry were notably absent from the night out but the presence of some other X Factor stars will have helped them have fun.

After her shock departure from the talent competition on Sunday, Jade Ellis was taken to the club by mentor Tulisa.

Joining them was X Factor 2008 winner Alexandra Burke, sporting her new blonde hairdo and an enviable body in a tight leopard print dress.

In towering Louboutin heels the 24-year old Bad Boy singer looked every bit the superstar, a status Jade will be hoping to achieve in the near future.
