Taylor Swift could reach another milestone

Will it be her night?

Wednesday is country music's biggest night, and Taylor Swift could reach another milestone. The Country Music Association awards begin at 8 p.m. on ABC (WHAM-TV, channel 13), and Swift is favored to win in the songwriting category, one of the most coveted. The 21-year-old has already won Entertainer of the Year from the CMA, and a Grammy for songwriting. She's also won the artist of the year from Nashville Songwriters Association International for four of the last five years (she's the youngest ever to win it).

Brad Paisley, a six-time nominee in the category and co-host of the CMAs with Carrie Underwood, believes that Swift has been unfairly overlooked as a songwriter among industry voters who make up the CMA, most of whom are in their 30s and 40s, he points out. This year's nomination could be a breakthrough.

"There's no 18-year-old in the world that you talk to who doesn't relate to some of her lyrics," Paisley says. "And in that sense ... she's laughing all the way to the bank as the voters might be saying, 'Well, you know, that's not for me.' That's not fair. In some ways it's even more groundbreaking what she's done."

The nomination is for the chart-topping "Mean," her spunky rebuttal to cynical criticism.
