Selena Gomez Taking On "Raw" New Role In Drug Dealing Comedy "Spring Breakers"

Selena Gomez has slowly been breaking free from her Disney roots, although for now her fan base still consists mostly of young people. She's hoping that may change after people see her in Spring Breakers, an upcoming comedy film that could costar James Franco, Emma Roberts, and fellow Disney alum Vanessa Hudgens. The film certainly sounds like a departure from her kid friendly past, and reportedly contains drinking, drugs and armed robbery.

Selena, and presumably Emma and Vanessa, will play three friends who rob a restaurant to finance their spring break trip (Spring Break, WOOOO!). When they end up in a jail, a drug and arms dealer bails them out and puts them to work. Definitely sounds more adult than Monte Carlo, which had a decidedly Disney like plot. This time, we doubt there will be much crossover between her Wizards of Waverly Place fans and the people who would come out for Spring Breakers.

Selena told MTV that she's excited to play such a "different character" finally.

"Right now we are wrapping up this year, and then beginning of next year I will be starting my new movie called ‘Spring Breakers,’ I’m really, really excited about it. It’s a different character than I have ever played before. It’s a different kind of vibe I think than people are used to seeing me in. What you’re going to see is more raw, I think. It’s going to be raw and more about acting."

Selena's a talented girl and has solid comedic timing, but do you think she's ready for a more adult role like this? More importantly, are audiences ready to see her that way?
