Unsurprisingly, Beyonce leads with a whopping eight nominations including “Video of the Year,” “Best Female” and “Best Choreography.”

Meanwhile, Eminem and Iggy Azalea each nabbed an impressive seven nominations each.

Usher, Ariana Grande, and 5 Seconds of Summer are all confirmed to perform with additional talent being announced at a later date.

Was Miley Cyrus VMAs Performance To Blame For Robin Thicke, Paula Patton Split?

Robin Thicke and Paula Patton confirmed they are splitting after eight years of marriage on Monday, but according to reports their relationship has been on the rocks for a while and was strained further by the Blurred Lines star's racy performance with Miley Cyrus at the MTV VMAs in September.

For some reason the Bangerz star has been dragged into Paula and Robin's break up, she might love the spotlight but we're pretty sure the couple's eight year marriage didn't come down to a five minute performance. The twerk-filled spectacle, where the Wrecking Ball babe danced and kissed the singer certainly hit the headlines, unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. The strain of dealing with the attention after the car crash performance, insiders claim, made their marriage even harder to save a new report states.

"The Miley Cyrus fiasco was a big test of their relationship," a source told Us Weekly.

According to the source Paula wasn't exactly happy with her husband's performance, but was asked by him to defend it following the massive backlash.

"He asked her to help him out as a friend and a wife, and defend him and the performance. He begged her to speak out for him and be there for him."

"She agreed to be the good wife after he begged and pleaded," the source explained, "Then he asked her to stick with him through awards season, and she agreed. She attended the Grammys with him as a favour."

Speaking about the incident on the Today Show weeks later Paula insisted she hadn't had a problem with the performance.

"They rehearsed for three days. Robin told me in advance," she said. "I thought it was great."

Talking about the secret to their happy marriage she went on: "At the end of the day it's love. We're still madly in love."

"I'm not that uptight. I'm not a traditionalist," she added.

"We're both artists and I want him to express himself however he feels, and he let's me do the same."

However the insider claimed by that time their marriage was already on the rocks: "Their marriage was unraveling a long time," "It is not a shock to Robin or Paula, and it is something they have discussed for a long time."

Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke Avoid Each Other in Public After MTV VMAs Performance

There's nothing blurry about the line between Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus these days. Thicke, 36, is angry with Cyrus, 21, for "going too far" with that infamous foam finger during their August 2013 MTV Video Music Awards performance, a source shares in the new issue of Us Weekly.

"Robin is jealous Miley's career took off after that," a second insider tells Us of the "Blurred Lines" singer, who was criticized for being "old enough to know better" in the wake of their headline-making duet. "He thinks she hijacked the performance."

The "Wrecking Ball" songstress, meanwhile, resents Thicke for not defending her after the show. (Asked about the pop star's racy moves in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Grammy-nominated crooner replied, "That's on her.") "Miley thinks Robin threw her under the bus," the source says.

Another insider denies there's bad blood between the two, but as one eyewitness noted at Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party on Jan. 25, they weren't exactly rushing to greet one another. "They were just a few tables apart and never spoke," the onlooker said.

“The support of other artists is important because there are not many people who can relate to what I’m going through right now,” says Cyrus, adding: “Kanye West is one of those people, and even Katy Perry has been so cool… I mean, who cares what the media buzz is if Kanye West is telling you that you’re the s**t?”

How Can Miley Cyrus's AMAs Performance Top Her VMAs Performance?

Miley Cyrus has been announced as the lead performer at the 2013 American Music Awards, topping the massive list of 19 artists scheduled to play the live show. The provocateuse will be hitting the prime-time television stage for the first time since her controversial MTV Video Music Awards performance, and on all eyes will be on her, her outfits, and whatever her pelvis decides to do.

Being that her AMAs performance follows up the performance that could possibly be her career-defining moment, what can Cyrus possibly, and legally, do to top herself? The natural place to look might be television's law enforcer, the Federal Communications Commissions' regulations on indecency, obscenity, and profanity.

Here's how the FCC defines these terms:

Indecency - "Language or material that, in context, depicts or describes, in terms patently offensive as measured by contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium, sexual or excretory organs or activities."

So: She can't show more skin than she already has, no simulated intercourse or bowel movements. Probably the best for everyone.

Profanity - "Language so grossly offensive to members of the public who actually hear it as to amount to a nuisance."

So: No swearing, no slurs, no outrageous rants, and (the joke a lot of people would make about Cyrus) no singing, period.

Obscenity -

1. "An average person, applying contemporary community standards, must find that the material, as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest ("prurient" means interest pertaining to sex);

2. The material must depict or describe, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct specifically defined by applicable law; and

3. The material, taken as a whole, must lack serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value."

So: Plenty of average American folks would check off all three requirements to qualify Cyrus's VMAs performance as outright obscenity, but thus far Cyrus is left untouched by the FCC.

With all these things in mind, we came up with a brief list of things Miley Cyrus can do to top her VMAs performance, in accordance with the law.

1. Focus on the music - Tone down the moves and the outfits and bring attention to her talent. This may be the most shocking option on our list, given that people are probably expecting Cyrus to go off the deep end. Even more shocking would be the fact that she is actually a pretty great live singer.

2. A-list wow factor - Have an outrageously amazing, wholly unexpected gaggle of surprise guests perform with her. The guests would have to be among the likes of Beyoncé, Mick Jagger, Daft Punk, Christopher Walken, President Obama, etc.

3. Moving duet with her dad, Billy Ray - All would be right in the Cyrus family's world, at least for one song.

4. Get meta and bring those memes to life, girlfriend! - Any funny, self-referential jabs are always entertaining. Example: grind on the real Beetlejuice onstage.

5. Three words: SICK SPECIAL EFFECTS (one more word, STUNTS) - Cyrus can harness the entertainment power of technology, death-defying feats, and explosions to blow out her performance with an impressive visual display that tantalizes eyeballs in a different way. Could include riding a giant disco-mirrored wrecking ball, swinging precariously over the audience with nominee Robin Thicke inside, probably against his will.

6. Straight-up break the rules - Whether it's a genuine accident like Janet Jackson's Super Bowl wardrobe malfucntion, or a deliberate move à la M.I.A. flipping the bird (also at the Super Bowl), Cyrus could just slide in a brief act of defiance during her performance and face the morality firing squad head-on. Also, clearly she needs to be on the Super Bowl half-time show.

7. Not show up. Cyrus could just bail out and leave while she's on top. She may never reach that insane level of fame and scrutiny again as she did with her VMAs performance, so why ruin a good thing? A disappointing performance could be worse than no performance at all.

Overall, looks like Cyrus can’t move forward on the indecency front without incurring hefty fines and possible jail time. So her only options are to scale way back and focus on her singing, or take a more traditional approach to entertainment with flair, flash, and famous people. Then again, if the government shutdown persists until the show's air date on November 24, the FCC will be limited to "performing duties that are immediately necessary for the safety of life or the protection of property."

In that case...it's so on, y'alls.

On Miley:
Joe: [Hesitates] It wasn’t my favorite performance of hers. I think that there’s one way of saying you’ve grown up, and there’s another way — I think that’s her way. Look, people are talking about it, so I think it’s working for what she wants.”
Nick: “She’s smart. She’s very smart. We’ve always known that about her. She’ll always be successful. [The performance] was funny — I was laughing.”

On the rumors about their sexuality:
Joe: “We have a lot of gay friends and gay fans. It’s a boy band stereotype; people assume, but we don’t take offense.”
Nick: “Prior to us being a band, I was a super theater geek. I loved theater and I still do, and I care about fashion, and I care about a lot of things that I feel like stereotypes are attached to.”
Joe: “[Being in Out] is a moment for us for sure. We keep saying, ‘Well, it’s about time.’”

On maturing:
Joe: “You get to this point where you can’t live your life trying to satisfy everybody, personally or as a musician. Somebody’s going to find something negative. So we were like, Let’s just be who we are and have opinions — whether it’s on politics or music — and really show who we are as people.”

Justin Timberlake Calls Miley Cyrus "Smart," "Talented" After VMAs

As the man who was personally responsible for bringing "Sexy Back" in 2006, Justin Timberlake knows a thing or two about how to make it in the music biz. During an interview with the TODAY show's Matt Lauer in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Sept. 18, the Runner Runner actor shared his thoughts on fellow former Disney star Miley Cyrus' controversial, twerk-filled performance at the MTV VMAs last month.

Timberlake, who married Jessica Biel last year, has seamlessly gone from 'N Sync front man to solo artist to successful actor in his career. "I'm only 32," he said, "but I've worked for two-thirds of my life."
"You made that leap through that kind of dangerous landscape between child star and adult star very well," Lauer noted. "I'm sure you've watched a little bit of what's going on with Miley Cyrus right now, do you think the press and the public are treating her unfairly?"

"I don't know that I have a definitive thought in one direction or the other about it," Timberlake said of the 20-year-old "We Can't Stop" singer. "I think she's really smart, and I think she's really talented. I'm not saying I agree with the presentation, but I also feel like every 10 to 15 years we pick somebody that this is what we're going to do with them, is we're going to make them the model of who we want our daughters to be or not be."

Timberlake, a former Mickey Mouse Club star, came to Cyrus' defense shortly after her performance late last month. "I like Miley. I like her a lot. I think, you know, she's young,' he told Fresh 102.7 radio show on Aug. 27. 'She's letting everybody know that she's growing up."

"I just think it's the VMAs. It's not like she did it at the Grammys," he added during that interview. "Let her do her thing, you know?"

Miley Cyrus Defends VMA Performance to Britney Spears, Gets New Tattoo

If there's anyone who understands controversial VMA moments, it's Britney Spears...and in a promo for Miley Cyrus' new MTV documentary, Miley: The Movement, she explains her raunchy performance to the pop star.

"Everyone takes the VMAs so serious," the 20-year-old "Wrecking Ball" singer tells Britney, who she worked with on her upcoming album. "I just wanna come out and shoot a hot dog gun! I just wanna have fun."

"You are always going to make people talk, but you might as well make them talk for two weeks," she explains in another scene.

Considering the VMAs were more than three weeks ago, we'd say mission accomplished!

In other Miley news, the newly-single singer got a brand new tattoo last month from Kat Von D.

"She got a Rolling Stones tattoo," her friend Amazon Ashley tells Life & Style. But don't expect to see it on her MTV special, which airs Oct. 10 on MTV. "You can't see where it is," her friend says. "I'll keep you guys guessing!"

Paula Patton reacts to Miley Cyrus' VMAs performance: 'I didn't get the big deal'

Paula Patton, wife of Robin Thicke, finally revealed her thoughts on her husband and Miley Cyrus’ controversial MTV Video Music Awards performance.

The Baggage Claim star appeared on Tuesday night’s episode of Watch What Happens Live to set the record straight, expressing her confusion at the backlash, laughed at the silliness of the ruckus, and defended her husband’s choice of wardrobe.

“I wasn’t surprised at all. Honestly, they rehearsed for three days beforehand I don’t know how not to dance with someone having their booty in your … all my friends do it like that,” she said. (Indeed, during a pre-VMAs interview with Access Hollywood, Patton seemed to be in on the musicians’ racy performance plans when she laughed and smiled as Robin Thicke gave a hint about what was to come: “I will tell you that Miley Cyrus is no longer Hannah Montana.”)

Patton continued, “And I don’t really know what the big deal is.”

She also poked fun at audience’s reactions, “I don’t know if they thought Miley was gonna sit down and play piano like Alicia Keys?”

Miley Cyrus Cut From 'Vogue' Cover After Raunchy VMAs Performance?

Was Miley Cyrus snubbed by Vogue because of her raunchy MTV Video Music Awards performance?

According to a new report in the Daily Mail, Miss Cyrus was taken off the mag's cover because of her distasteful routine with Robin Thicke at the awards show.

Miley was reportedly set up to be on the cover of the fashion magazine's December issue but was taken off after the editor, Anna Wintour, thought her gig at the show was too much and wasn't what she was trying to portray in the mag.

"Anna found the whole thing distasteful," a source told the Mail.

"She decided, based on Miley's performance, to take the cover in a different direction."

Ouch! Maybe Miley is going a little too far with this whole new image thing? She IS naked in her new music video! We're guessing this snub is going to hurt her a little too. She is quite the fashionista and Vogue is a fierce publication in the fashion world.

Harry Styles Told Taylor Swift 'He Was Mad To Let Her Go' In Heart To Heart After VMAs?

Harry Styles and Taylor Swift haven't enjoyed the most amicable break-up since splitting at the beginning of the year, but fast forward nine months and it sounds like the ex couple are enjoying each others company again.

The former lovers got tongues wagging after they were spotted partying together after last month's MTV Video Music Awards with the One Direction stud confirming that they'd enjoying a "mocktail" together.

Insiders have claimed it was more than just a drink though as Harry reportedly poured his heart out to his ex.

Following Taylor's acceptance speech at the VMAs where she "thanked the person who inspired" her hit I Knew You Were Trouble the cameras zoomed in on Harry, who is widely thought to have been her inspiration for the break up track.

After the ceremony though, Hazza reportedly went straight over to Taylor and apologised for their messy split: "Taylor and Harry had a heart to heart. He's very funny, so can make her defences come down easily," a source told Look magazine.

"He told her she was the most stunning girl at the awards and that he was mad to let her go."

Apparently the two then went for dinner with the insider adding that they're planning to meet up again soon:

"They're planning another dinner when they're in the same city. Taylor's happy to be back in touch with him, as they have a lot of laughs together but she was hurt and she's cautious of going there again," the source said.

Harry has recently hinted that he has a special someone in his life, telling Fabulous magazine:

"There is… I’ve got someone that I like, yeah," when pushed for an answer, although he refused to name the lucky lady: "There’s just someone in mind," Harry continued. "There’s always someone who’s the person you think about if something happens. But yeah. There’s nothing really happening at the moment."

Harry Styles Says Twerking Promotes Promiscuity, Is "Inappropriate"

Don't expect to ever find Harry Styles twerking -- again! The One Direction member recently revealed that the dance move -- that Miley Cyrus has continued to make headlines with -- is just not his cup of tea.

"I think it's quite inappropriate," the 19-year-old singer told Moviefone while promoting his new 3D concert movie One Direction: This Is Us. "Especially for the age groups it's aimed at," he added. "I think it's, you know, promoting promiscuity."

Ed Sheeran Explains Taylor Swift's One Direction VMAs Diss!

Well, we're finally getting the FULL story behind Taylor Swift's alleged One Direction diss at the MTV Video Music Awards last week!

While many (including us) assumed Tay was totally caught on camera saying "shut the f*** up" to One Direction while they were presenting an award at the show, that's not what Ed Sheeran says really went down.

At a recent press conference, the British singer and BFFs to both Taylor and Harry Styles revealed what really went down at the VMAs.

Ed said that the real reason Taylor said those specific words was because right before Selena Gomez won her award, she turned to Taylor and said, "I think Miley's going to win." After that, Taylor said the now famous sentence that every just thought was a 1D diss.

Ed Sheeran Explains Taylor Swift VMAs F-Bomb, Wasn’t About Harry Styles

Taylor Swift’s whispered but unmistakable “Shut the f**k up!” to gal pal Selena Gomez at the MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday, sparked fury from Directioners, the band themselves, and shock elsewhere, when it was thought the songstress aimed her insult at ex-beau Harry Styles.


At the time it was a reasonable assumption, since the “I Knew You Were Trouble” star was looking at One Direction while Harry spoke onstage at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The boy band were on stage to present the Moonman for Best Pop Video.

Now, British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who is also Swift’s tour mate and pal, has stepped into the breach and revealed his friend’s apparent snark wasn’t aimed at Styles at all.

At a recent press conference, Sheeran said Swift’s caught-on-camera obscenity was actually said to Gomez when the Latina expressed doubt she could win. It seems Taylor’s sass was her way of giving Gomez confidence.

“Selena said, ‘I think Miley’s gonna win,’” Sheeran explained. “And Taylor was like, ‘Shut the f— up!’ That’s all that was!”

Just moments later, One Direction presented Gomez with the Moonman for her single “Come and Get It.”

Still, Sheeran admits Swift did mention to him at the time that she thought her seeming diss could be taken out of context.

“Taylor was like, ‘I think I messed up,’” he added.

Ever-helpful, Sheeran went on to talk about all the good Taylor does in a video you can also see below.

His explanation should calm the waters with One Direction and their devoted fans. The “Give Me Love’s” singer’s version of events does seem to make sense seeing as Styles, Swift, and Sheeran posed for a photo together at an VMAs after party and even dined together after the event.

Styles and Swift dated for a few months last year but split in January after a disastrous trip to the British Virgin Islands.

Miley Cyrus Slammed by Foam Finger Inventor After VMAs Routine!

We weren't the only ones not feeling Miley Cyrus' MTV Video Music Awards performance!

Not only did her fiance' Liam Hemsworth reportedly not like her raunchy routine but the alleged creator of the foam finger, Steve Chmelar, recently blasted the star for "degrading" his creation during her live performance at the VMAs.

Steve claims to have created the first foam hand to support his high school basketball team when he was a teenager and now he's not thrilled with the way Miley used his invention.

"I would say that it certainly misrepresented its intent to encourage team support," Steve told Fox News.

"She took an honourable icon that is seen in sporting venues everywhere and degraded it," he continued.

He's not too worried about what Miley possibly did to his product's reputation though.

"Fortunately, the foam finger has been around long enough that it will survive this incident. As for Miley Cyrus, let's hope she can outlive this event and also survive."

Ouch!

Don't worry, Steve's not simply a Miley hater. He admitted her whole image could simply just not be his thing.

"For people that like that kind of entertainment, I'm sure that it met their needs. If I had a choice between Julie Andrews singing 'The Sound of Music' and Miley Cyrus doing '[We] Can't Stop', I'd go the Julie Andrews route, but everyone has their choice and their decision."

Rihanna Reportedly Dissed Taylor Swift at the VMAs!

Whoa, what?! There's beef between Rihanna and Taylor Swift now?

According to Us Weekly, Ri-Ri reportedly had A LOT to say about T-Swift at the MTV Video Music Awards and it wasn't nice! Shocked?

The bad-girl singer reportedly wasn't feeling Taylor's singalongs and basically thought she was doing it for attention.

"She's making a scene," Rihanna reportedly said to a friend sitting beside her at the show.

"She ain't cute."

Maybe Rihanna's a die-hard 1D fan or something? She did sit next to the guys at the show!

Honestly, we aren't surprised Rihanna said that about Tay. She's known to be a little outspoken these days...But really, does she have room to talk? Doesn't Ri go a little out of her way nowadays to make a scene? Hmm...

Miley Cyrus' VMAs Performance Was A Success, Says Her Manager

The fact that stories about Miley Cyrus' VMAs performance, like this one, still persist four days after the singer dry-humped a foam finger on the Barclays Center stage is a testament to its success. That, however, hasn't stopped Cyrus' manager from speaking out and dispelling rumors that Team Miley is "freaking out" after the raunchy show.

"We were all cheering from the side of the stage," Cyrus' manager, Larry Rudolph, told Us Weekly of the 20-year-old's friends and family, including her mother, Tish. "It could not have gone better. The fans got it. The rest eventually will."

Previously, Us Weekly reported Cyrus' team was in panic mode after the performance, as an unnamed insider claimed team was unaware of was was about to go down on stage: "They saw the rehearsals, but those were really played down compared to the live performance."

In reality, Cyrus' team appears to be celebrating. In fact, Rudolph, who is also Britney Spears' longtime manager, seems to be encouraging Cyrus' new image.

"Miley is [evolving in the industry] now organically," he told The Hollywood Reporter in July. "There's no such thing as ‘OK, let's figure out the plan for growing up.' It doesn't work. The public sees through it in two seconds, and every artist who's tried to do it has failed."

Rudolph went on to compare Cyrus to Spears, who in his mind was able to pull off the transition organically.

"[For the] third album, [Spears] wanted to make edgier music. She sought out Pharrell. She's the one who insisted ‘Slave 4 U' be the first single and she was right. She was the one who sat down with Francis Lawrence and came up with the video concept," he explained." It was not some record-company executive and a manger sitting in a room plotting this out," he continues. "Same thing with Miley. What you see now, this is her."

Liam Hemsworth Was Embarrassed by Miley Cyrus' VMA Performance?

We already know what pretty much everyone else thought of Miley Cyrus' epic MTV Video Music Awards performance but what did her fiance', Liam Hemsworth, think about it?

According to RadarOnline.com, Liam was reportedly mortified and embarrassed by his lady's raunchy act...even though he wasn't there!

"Liam really does care about Miley, but her racy new look and sort of ghetto attitude isn't exactly what he signed up for," an insider told Radar.

"Her VMA performance absolutely mortified him and he couldn't be more embarrassed. He doesn't really see anything sexy about what she did on stage."

Uhh, who did?! We totally don't blame him for being embarrassed! Maybe that's why they're never seen together anymore?

"It's not just Liam that Miley is pushing away...his entire team is urging him to part ways with her because she's nothing but negative for his reputation and career," the same source added.

"Liam is a serious actor with a growing career, while Miley has just turned into a joke...It's pretty much over. He knows he can't stay with her when this is who she's become."

Miley's other loved ones, her parents, don't feel the same way Liam does.
