One Direction given Blondie's approval

One Direction's 'One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)' has been given the seal of approval by Blondie.

The boy band's charity single - which mashed up the New Wave band's 1979 single 'One Way Or Another' with The Undertones' 'Teenage Kicks' - was a huge hit around the globe, and Debbie Harry, who originally wrote the song with Nigel Harrison, is a fan.

She told the Daily Star newspaper: ''I was pleased by One Direction's version - I thought they did a good job.

''Making a mash-up of our song by putting it together with The Undertones' track was entirely appropriate.''

Debbie, 67, also thinks the boy band's take on the song is like her own band's early cover versions, adding: ''One Direction's take had a similar spirit to our early cover versions. They seem good kids.''

Hopefully the success of One Direction's track will give Debbie some hope for the future, as she has previously said she thinks the record industry has been ruined.

Speaking in 2011, she said: ''The music industry is already ruined. Computers and the internet and downloading songs completely ruined the music industry and everything artists used to work for.''

Debbie also says Blondie's new album will feature Gossip singer Beth Ditto, adding: ''I adore Beth, she's got the most incredible voice.''

One Direction Give Charitable Peeks At 'One Way Or Another'

One Direction are just two days away from dropping their video for "One Way or Another," and judging by brand-new teasers, they're going to have a good time doing it.

The teasers feature the fivesome getting pulled over in NYC, goofing off in London and Japan, sporting Red Noses — fitting considering that's the event they recorded the song for — as well as going on a charity mission to Africa for the U.K. charity Comic Relief. All proceeds from the sales of the Blondie cover will go to the Comic Relief organization and help those affected by famine in Africa.

The release is timed to mark the 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day, a fundraising event held by the organization that officially takes place on March 15. With four teasers down, the video officially drops Thursday, one day after they perform the track at the Brit Awards. The song got an official release last Sunday after a leaked version found its way online earlier this month.

The "Teenage Kicks" version of the famed punk classic came together at the suggestion of the band's manager, Simon Cowell. And MTV News got all the dish on the single from producer Julian Bunetta, who also worked on songs off their 2012 release Take Me Home.

"It was Simon Cowell that came up with the idea and because obviously it's a really cheeky song and it's very fun and also it was very unexpected," he said. "And I think that he wanted to do something that was out of the ordinary that people wouldn't expect. And, it obviously is fun and that works with the whole Comic Relief thing and the whole Comic Relief idea."

One Direction preview video for new single 'One Way or Another'

One Direction have released a preview clip of the music video for their Comic Relief single.

The band release 'One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)' - a mash-up of hits by Blondie and The Undertones - digitally on February 17, with the physical CD available from Sainsbury's on February 18.

The video was filmed by the band while they were on tour and includes footage from New York, Japan and London, as well as the boys visiting African projects supported by Red Nose Day.

It was previewed during tonight's (February 16) Let's Dance for Comic Relief, which saw Tim Vine and The Soap Stars make it through to the final.

The full music video will be available on Vevo from Thursday, February 21, the day after the band perform it for the first time at the Brit Awards.

Simon Cowell's Syco record label will donate 100% of the profits from sales of the single to Comic Relief.

One Direction Premiere One Way Or Another Video

The video for One Direction's Comic Relief single, One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks), will get its first viewing tonight on Let's Dance For Comic Relief.

The brand new track which is being released to raise funds for Comic Relief features footage of the band on tour in New York, Japan and London.

It also features clips of the boys visiting Africa to see how previous funds raised through Red Nose Day have helped turn people's lives around.

The BBC show, which will air tonight at 6.50pm, will also feature the first of a series of films showing Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson spending time in Africa, visiting a hospital to meet sick babies who have illnesses that could have been prevented by a simple vaccination.

The single, which is a medley of tracks by Blondie and The Undertones, will be available to download from iTunes from Monday.

The video will be available to watch on Vevo from Thursday 21 February.

After One Direction announced they’d be covering Blondie‘s “One Way or Another” for charity, Daybreak host Richard Arnold asked, “Whose dad came up with that idea? It was 1978, lads.” (Their response: “Seems like yesterday to me.”)

One Direction 'Daybreak' Interview: 1D's Trip to Ghana "Best Thing We've Ever Done"

The One Direction guys sat down for a Daybreak interview and had a lot to talk about--including their recent visits to Japan and Ghana.

One of the highlights of Japan was buying robots, the guys explain. Ah...boys.

Fans also get to see footage of their trip to Ghana, which they explain was a life-changing experience.

Harry notes, "We all kind of went out there not really knowing what to expect and then we all came back all kind of looking at each other and just kind of going, 'that was the best thing we've ever done. It was amazing."

Zayn talked about how the experience "put things into perspective," adding "In everyday life, you have, like, little problems that we think are so major and then you go over there and you actually see people that actually are dealing with real problems and happen to carry on every day."

By the way, One Direction will be performing their Comic Relief song "One Way or Another" for the first time at the Brit Awards.

The 'One Thing' stars say they can't wait to hit the stage at London's O2 Arena for the performance.

One Direction have revealed that they will be performing their new song 'One Way Or Another' at this year's BRIT Awards.

The track, a cover of Blondie single or the same name, will act as this year's official Comic Relief single and the boy band admitted they were "excited" to be perfoming their new song.

"Getting the chance to perform Blondie's song will be incredible," said Louis Tomlinson. "We're so excited!"

The boys will be joined on the performers line-up for the event by the likes of Mumford & Sons, Muse and Robbie Williams.

The band have also unveiled the official release date for the single, which will be available to download on 17th February.
