After One Direction announced they’d be covering Blondie‘s “One Way or Another” for charity, Daybreak host Richard Arnold asked, “Whose dad came up with that idea? It was 1978, lads.” (Their response: “Seems like yesterday to me.”)
A 30-second snippet of 1D’s cover has since surfaced online, and for now, it’s enough proof that the British boy band embraced the challenge, generational gap aside. Their take is a more stadium-ready rendition, featuring heavier guitars and a more dramatic build-up at the bridge.
One Direction’s charity single is out February 17.
