To address reports that new X Factor judge Britney Spears walked off the set upset after one contestant sang a version of Spears’s song, “Hold It Against Me,” fellow judge Simon Cowell has come forward denying the rumor.
In a video sent to TMZ, he said, “I’ll be official from the X Factor cam. I’m Simon Cowell, I’m on the panel. There have been no walk offs on the show.”
He jokingly added while gesturing to new judge Demi Lovato, “Although I’d quite like somebody to actually walk off – but she won’t.”
According to E! Online, Cowell and Lovato also denied it in an interview for the X Factor website.
When asked whether Spears had walked off the set upset, Cowell joked, “No, that was Demi.”
The new judge played along. “I was like, you know, tired of Simon, so ‘I had to just, like, go,’” she said, with an English accent for the last part.
After some more banter, Cowell firmly said that there was no storming off.
“We have breaks every five or six songs,” he said. “You can go have a cigarette, you can go to the loo.”
Spears herself denied the rumor via Twitter. She wrote, “#Britneywalksoff??? LOL was just taking a little break people. I am having the BEST time!!!”
