Ariana Grande has officially released her new song “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” the first single off her upcoming eighth studio album, Petal.
The 32-year-old singer won’t be dropping the album until July 31, but she’s giving fans an early taste of her new music ahead of her Eternal Sunshine concert tour.
It’s unclear who the song is about, but Ariana could possibly be singing about her ex-husband, Dalton Gomez. Though, on songs on Eternal Sunshine, she sang about how hard she tried to make the relationship work and on this song, she’s doing the opposite, saying she “barely tried.”
Just know that I will find my way from you
Like flowers from a tomb while you decide who you are
And I can see right through, like shadows on the moon
And it’s all bad news
Yeah, I, I, I
Hate that I made you love me
Sorry if I made me your type
Yeah, I, I hate that I made you love me
‘Cause I barely tried
Ariana raved about the song while announcing it to fans a few weeks ago. She said, “One of my favorite songs I’ll ever write produced by my favorite collaborators and dearest human beings in the world, the brilliant Ilya, the one and only Max Martin (and me). I simply cannot wait for it to be yours.”
