Selena Gomez gave an awesome speech at We Day Vancouver on Wednesday, October 22, and she kind of has Taylor Swift to thank for it. While speaking at the event, Sel focused on judgment and forgiveness, and tied her pep talk to not only T-Swift but also the rise in social media bullying.
She told the crowd, "When people look at me, they don't see a 22-year-old figuring it out as she goes. They see what they want to see."
"I know what it's like to be judged and to be put down. I know what it's like to have other people have opinions of you without knowing you," she said.
"I want to say you are not defined by an Instagram photo, by a like , by a comment. That does not define you," she stressed to the audience. "I want you guys to know that the trick is to focus on the love."
She continued, "What I want you guys to do is, every rude comment, every person that tries to hurt you personally or though the Internet, I want you to forgive them. Just forgive them."
"There is so much love in this world, and in this stadium. Do not limit yourself because of what others expect," said the star. "We all deserve more than we think, and in the end, nobody remembers those haters, the comments. Nobody remembers them. They're just background noise."
She went on to say, "Like my friend Taylor [Swift] says, the haters are gonna hate. Just shake it off." Watch Sel's moving speech below. Just another reason why we love her...and T-Swift!
