But Zayn Malik, who is thought to be worth £14million, shunned top hotels in favour of a £24.50 per person B&B while visiting Blackpool on Monday.
The Mirror reports that the 21-year-old star hung out at the New Esplanade Hotel while visiting his fiancée Perrie Edwards, who was performing in the seaside town with her band Little Mix.
Zayn was seen smoking a cigarette and making a call outside the hotel, which is located close to the South Shore Promenade.
The couple were later seen entering the town’s Opera House, where Little Mix were playing their first UK arena tour.
A witness said: ‘He may be worth a small fortune but he is clearly very down to earth and snubbed some of the posher hotels such as the Hilton in the area to enjoy some down-time.’
The hotel is billed as offering ‘comfortable and spacious’ rooms with a ‘spacious sun lounge overlooking the Promenade.’
Meanwhile, Simon Cowell has defended One Direction after footage appeared to show Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson smoking cannabis in Peru.
At an event for the Health Lottery at London's Savoy hotel on Monday, the Mirror reports that Simon said: 'I can only talk about my relationship with them and they've been a joy to work with.'
Simon also insisted 1D - also made up of Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Harry Styles - are still appreciative of the fans who have made them a global phenomenon.
He said: 'I've worked with a lot of artists in the past who actually do lose the plot and do lose respect for their fans and forget who took them there. They really do love their fans.'
Cowell wouldn't comment on whether or not he had told the boys off, only saying: 'It's a private matter. I hope the fans stay loyal.'
