The Fault in Our Stars, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, took the top spot at the box office with $48.2 million!
According to THR, The Fault in Our Stars, which grossed an additional $17 million internationally, beat Tom Cruise‘s Edge of Tomorrow in 16 of the 17 international markets where it opened this weekend.
Angelina Jolie‘s new film Maleficent grossed another $33.5 million for the second spot at the box office, making its total domestic earnings $127.4 million.
Edge of Tomorrow, which took approximately $178 million to make, came in third with $29.1 million.
Rounding out the top five were X-Men: Days of Future Past, starring Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, and the new Charlize Theron and Seth MacFarlane comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West, which brought in $14.7 million and $7.2 million, respectively.
