US pop star Taylor Swift's youthful energy shone through as she put on an electrifying concert in Singapore on Monday.
The lights went out.
The crowd went wild.
US pop star Taylor Swift was in town.
The 24-year-old singer sauntered onto the stage and kicked off her concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Monday with her hit song “State of Grace”, wearing her signature hat and figure-hugging shorts that accentuated her svelte figure.
Swift paused to soak in the cheers and applause from the 8,000 fans at the venue, before flashing a dazzling smile and performing “Holy Ground” as well as “Red” in quick succession.
She went on to perform “Lucky One”, “Mean” and “22” at the Singapore stop of her Red Tour, striking poses and flicking her hair - which miraculously never gets messy no matter how much she moves - every chance she got.
Her youthful energy and sheer exuberance was infectious - she soon had concert-goers on their feet, pumping their fists as she sang.
Swift quickly managed to establish a rapport with the audience and had them firmly on her side when she revealed that she actually has a special link to Singapore.
“Little known fact, my mum grew up in Singapore so she used to tell me stories about it.
“It turns out the people really are incredible!” said Swift, eliciting deafening cheers from the audience.
While the colourful costumes and her army of dancers as well as musicians imparted an impressive theatrical quality to her performances, the greatest highlight of the evening was her acoustic renditions of “You Belong With Me”, “Teardrops On My Guitar” and “Sparks Fly” on the secondary stage.
Swift sang accompanied by nothing but her guitar.
Her passionate performance drew screams of excitement from those lucky enough to get seats in front of the secondary stage.
Alas, the positioning of the secondary stage meant that only about 20 per cent of the entire indoor stadium could watch her performance.
Many audience members were spotted craning their necks to catch a glimpse of Swift’s back as she played.
Meanwhile, her band and supporting dancers were left on the main stage, appearing slightly forlorn, but they still tried their best to give concert-goers something to see on the main stage, as they waited for the star of the show to come back.
All was forgiven when Swift finally returned to the main stage, shaking her fans’ hands and giving them high fives along the way.
The Singapore Indoor Stadium erupted in cheers once more as she launched into “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “All Too Well” before wrapping up the concert with “Love Story”.
The audience just could not get enough of their blonde, blue-eyed goddess and chanted her name in hopes of enticing her to do an encore.
Swift swiftly obliged.
The singer trotted onto the stage dressed as a circus ringmaster while her dancers pranced around her in clown costumes.
Some even wore stilts to add to the carnival atmosphere as Swift belted out her final song of the evening, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”.
Then it was truly over.
The concert ended the same way it began, with Swift flashing a dazzling smile amidst thunderous applause from the audience.
