They are Britain’s best-loved boy band.
And One Direction helped make the dreams of 60 lucky fans come true as ambassadors for the Rays Of Sunshine charity.
The charity helps grant the wishes of seriously ill children, with the band – Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Harry Styles – meeting the youngsters prior to performing at Wembley stadium on Sunday.
The charity was founded in 2003 to help children who are living with serious or life-limiting illnesses between the ages of 3-18, across the United Kingdom.
The band are performing a three-night residency at Wembley as part of their Where We Are Tour, with fans likely to set a new UK record for tweeting at an event.
With 19 million Twitter followers, five million followers on Instagram and over 30 million Facebook likes, the band's fans are notoriously keen users of social media.
Louis was also lambasted for using the word 'nig' - which fans say is a shortened version of the N-word - in the controversial footage.
The pair then go on to a discussion in which the word ‘gay’ is used in a derogatory fashion, leading to further criticism.
But clearly not all One Direction fans had burned their tickets, as an aerial shot of the stadium in Northwest London shows a full house.
Liam Payne told the crowd how ‘surreal’ it was to play the famous venue where so many other great acts had performed.
‘Hello Wembley. I genuinely can't believe I'm saying that,’ the singer said. ‘Right now is the most surreal moment of my life.
‘It's the best day of my life and you've made all our dreams come true.
He added: ‘Last night I went to bed and had a dream that I was performing naked. It was terrifying.'
Niall Horan too was humbled by the setting: ‘This is unbelievable. This is absolutely incredible. We we're put together as a band less than one hundred yards away from this arena and now here we are stood in front of you. We can't thank you enough.’
Metallica, The Killers, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Madonna, Coldplay, Oasis, Take That and AC/DC have all performed at Wembley Stadium, now One Direction can add themselves to that list.
