In an interview with MTV, Lupe Fiasco was asked if people have a right to be upset about Justin Bieber’s recent racist remarks.
He responded with a question of his own: did Donald Sterling, the soon-to-be former co-owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, actually say the n-word?
In fact, Sterling never used that word, but Bieber did in two different clips.
“Justin Bieber said it, so it’s cool,” Fiasco continued with a shrug, referencing Lil Wayne and YMCMB’s statement of support for Bieber to TMZ.
“I don’t think anybody should be able to profit off racism,” Fiasco said. “Donald Sterling made a billion dollars. Sold the team, made a billion dollars. There was such an uproar about someone who didn’t use the n-word at all. Then you have somebody who made a very racist joke about it. I wonder if Justin Bieber is going to get the same treatment as Donald Sterling. I don’t think he will.”
Fiasco goes on to characterize Bieber’s statement as being “more racist-er” than what Sterling said and finishes up by saying, “but whatever, I don’t really care either way.”
