t’s been confirmed — The Giver will partly be in black and white.
Just like the novel where people see in black and white, the film will be seen in black and white AND color, the studio confirmed.
“I began to think about how important memory is. What would happen if we could manipulate human memory?” author Lois Lowry shares in the featurette below.
She continues, “And when a writer begins to think questions like that, starting with ‘What If?’, then a story begins.”
The Giver, which opens on August 15th, is set in a seemingly perfect community, without war, pain, suffering, differences or choice. Now, a young boy (Thwaites) is chosen to learn from an elderly man about the true pain and pleasure of the “real” world.
