When everyone heard that Angelina Jolie's daughter, Vivienne was cast as Princess Aurora in her new film Maleficent, some wondered if she got the role because of her mom.
Well, that might be true...but it's not what you think. Vivienne didn't get the role simply because her mom hooked her up with it, she got it because she knew that it was her mom behind all of that makeup and she didn't run screaming when she saw her.
"We think it's fun for our kids to have cameos and join us on set, but not to be actors. That's not our goal for Brad [Pitt] and I at all," she told Entertainment Weekly (via Us Weekly). "But the other 3-and 4-year-old [performers] wouldn't come near me. It had to be a child that liked me and wasn't afraid of my horns and my eyes and my claws. So it had to be Viv."
We know what you're thinking--how did Vivienne get picked over all of their other children? Did they draw straws? Play paper, rock, scissors? Not necessary. Angie said that her other kids were scared of her, too, so it didn't call for much of a decision-making process at all.
Fortunately, Angelina was eventually able to get her other kids to soften to the scary character after the A-list actress went into full-on mom mode, telling her kids a different side of the story, one that made Maleficent more sympathetic--and it worked. "The next day, I heard Shiloh getting into a fight with another kid," she recalled, "...defending Maleficent, saying, 'You don't understand her!'"
So cute. We love hearing about Angie's softer side...and we're even more relieved that she's not interested in adding "-ager" to the end of her "mom" title.
