The all-conquering quintet have contracted the songwriting bug and want to pen No 1s for the next generation of pop acts.
First on their hit-list are girl group Neon Jungle and Aussie swoon-somes 5 Seconds Of Summer.
Neon Jungle’s Amira McCarthy, 17, told me: “Liam Payne knew who we were and said he was listening to our song in the car.
“He said that he’d really like to write for us, so we’re waiting for the song.”
Meanwhile, 18-year-old Calum Hood from 5SOS – who supported 1D on tour – said they had jammed on the tour bus with 1D’s Niall Horan.
He revealed: “We found our common ground was Busted. So there’s a few pop rock ideas kicking around already. We’d love to make it happen.”
The revelations come after Liam, 20, and Louis Tomlinson, 22, were named the biggest earners in 1D.
The pair co-wrote almost half of the songs on latest album Midnight Memories and there are plenty more where those came from.
“It’s a real step forward,” Liam told me recently. “We’re really enjoying the writing process and we’ve recorded some of the best material ever for the next album.”
Niall, 20, has also been learning fresh chops on his guitar thanks to tips from pals Ed Sheeran, 23, and Olly Murs, 29.
He told me: “I get the guitar out whenever I can. Writing music is really therapeutic.”
It’s all good news for pals 5SOS, who release their debut single She Looks So Perfect later this month.
“We loved playing with them,” said 5SOS singer Luke Hemmings, 17.
“It was a massive opportunity for us to get our music out to a bigger audience. There’s nothing to be ashamed of about playing with One Direction. But I can’t say who is the biggest party animal!”
Meanwhile, the prospect of a 1D hook-up is all a bit much for Neon Jungle.
Asami Zdrenka, 18, added: “I’m a huge fan. I used to wait outside places for them, so just to meet them is crazy.”
Try not to lose it when 1D join you in the studio girls.
