Because, of course, fans are going to take inappropriate selfies and send them to Niall, right? Poor guy probably fainted from the sight of it all...after all, the ages of some 1D fans could make the whole thing rather uncomfortable. Yeah, not the funniest prank, we'd say.
A source told the Daily Star (via CapitalFM): "Niall didn't see the funny side of it. He wasn't even remotely curious about the pictures because so many of his fans are teenage girls. It was a huge pain for him. He was forced to change his number immediately."
The insider added, "The initial guess was that one of his friends leaked it as a joke. It's not that Niall doesn't have a sense of humor, but he's sensitive too."
And we love him for it.
