Enraged members of Taylor Swift’s loyal fanbase have set their sights on an indie clothing company.
Lex Houser and Andi Cross of Bad Kids Clothing (BKC) made a custom tank for a friend to wear to a Taylor Swift concert. They then posted a picture of the clever tee, which listed the last names of men who have been linked to Swift, including Harry Styles, John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal.
Swiftie Nation didn't think the shirt was funny.
Like they did when Abercrombie & Fitch tried to sell a '#more boyfriends than t.s." shirt, some of Swift's fans (known as Swifties) started inundating Houser and Cross with angry calls and emails demanded they stop selling the "extremely offensive" shirt.
"That's what all these girls are saying— 'We took Abercrombie down in three hours, obviously we're going to take you down because we've never even heard of you!'" Houser told Fashionista.
Well, BKC hasn't been selling the shirt to begin with, but they brilliantly decided to cash in on the attention and made it available for purchase.
Meanwhile, the Swifties continued to send insults and death threats via Twitter, email and Facebook. They relentlessly harassed the women and said they would burn their store to the ground, even though Bad Kids Clothing is an online retailer.
Cross explained in a blog post that she and Houser received messages "that these 13-year-old girls were going to murder us with knives or guns, that we should not be allowed to live [and] that the 'Swifties' would come to ruin our lives."
Most of the Swifties were insulted because the shirt implies that Swift is a slut, and it listed more than the pop star's six ex-boyfriends.
The women told Fashionista that, while they aren't worried about the threats, they are concerned about the behavior.
"It does scare me to think that if this is going on with us, that this is going on with real kids in real schools," Houser said.
BKC hasn't stopped selling the tee, but they have made one change. The shirt originally mentioned Cory Monteith, the 31-year-old "Glee" star who died Saturday from an overdose of heroin and alcohol. His name has since been removed.
