Emma Watson doesn’t have a personal Facebook page as it would feel like she was naked.
The actress networks on the social site in a professional capacity, but isn’t interested in giving any insights into her personal life. Emma prefers to keep certain things about herself out of the public spotlight.
“It would be like wearing no clothes; stripped bare,” she told Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye. “I have a professional Facebook page - but not a personal one.”
Emma finds it incredible that even young children are actively involved in social media. She worries kids are growing up too quickly and compromising their privacy by revealing so much about their lives.
“I see three-year-olds with iPhones and other gadgets and already they’re comparing themselves constantly with others about how many friends, clothes and places they share. It’s this super, hyped-up, intense version of childhood, which can’t be healthy,” she said. “We’re documenting and putting out there all aspects of our lives. You do something, then you tweet it. It’s not just celebrities who are dealing with this lack of anonymity and lack of privacy. Everyone is branding themselves now.”
The 23-year-old star has been one of the most famous faces in Hollywood since shooting to fame as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise. Although Emma was happy to take on new roles once the movies ended, she does miss playing the intelligent witch at times.
“Hermione was so funny, and such a character. She was completely unaware of how precocious and bossy she was, though eventually the role become more serious,” she smiled. “I really miss making people laugh. I miss her. Hermione really started off as quite an eccentric girl, and the bits I really enjoyed were when she was unaware of herself.
“She had that hilarious lack of perspective.”
