They've been plagued by seemingly constant rumours of a split since early February.
And Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth couldn't have been further apart as they spent their Friday nights on opposite corners of the world.
Liam, 23, spent the evening mingling with a star-studded crowd in the playground of the rich and famous as he attended the the Belvedere Vodka 'Walks Its Way' Into Cannes party.
Fuelling rumours that their engagement is hanging in the balance on an almost daily basis even further, Miley, 20, was 6,000 miles away in Los Angeles, spending the day hard at work in the recording studio.
The former child star opted for a casual ensemble for her day at the studio, showing off her slim frame in a pair of black skinny jeans and a red plaid shirt.
Meanwhile, Liam cut a dapper figure in a striped T-shirt and jeans as he enjoyed his night out at Cannes' legendary VIP Room nightclub alongside the likes of Solange Knowles and The Help actress Ahna O'Reilly.
Although her fiancé was enjoying partying with the Hollywood A-list on the French Riviera, Miley seemed to be focused on work, and is even rumoured to be collaborating with Justin Bieber.
Writing on her Twitter page, she said: 'Gotta focus on making this music with @mikewillmadeit #phonedown #goodnighttweethearts xo.'
Before later adding: 'CAN'T STOP. CARRY ON.'
While the couple's current relationship status is unknown, it was recently reported that Miley made one last ditch effort to save her flailing relationship with the actor.
According to a report in InTouch magazine, she enlisted the help of a 'spiritual' marriage counsellor to help the pair work out their differences.
An insider told the magazine: 'She’s hoping to save her relationship by enlisting a therapist. She knows that Liam has one foot out the door and that she’ll lose him if she doesn’t act fast.'
The two started dating while filming 2010 movie The Last Song and have had a revolving-door relationship ever since.
A split was confirmed in August 2010, but they were spotted together a month later after reconciling their romance.
They parted ways again in November 2010 - only to get back together for a second time a few months later.
