Wait, are those teen screams I hear off in the distance? The MuchMusic Video Awards must be just around the corner.
The MMVAs flaunted a little early star power on Thursday evening by announcing child actress turned chart-topping pop starlet Demi Lovato as the first performer of the 2013 ceremonies, going down as usual at MuchMusic’s Queen West headquarters on Sunday, June 16.
The “Heart Attack” singer currently serves as one of the judges on the U.S X Factor series.
She’s also up against One Direction, PSY and Taylor Swift — along with “wild card” choices P!nk, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis — in the running for Your Fave International Artist/Group of the Year, one of three fan-voted awards to be handed out on the show.
The two other “Your Fave” categories were also revealed Thursday.
Nominated for Your Fave Video of the Year are Classified’s “Inner Ninja,” Drake’s “Starting from the Bottom,” Hedley’s “Kiss You Inside Out” and Marianas Trench’s “Stutter.” Possible wild card entries to be voted onto the final ballad are Anjulie’s “You and I,” Billy Talent’s “Surprise Surprise,” Deadmau5’s “The Veldt,” the Sheepdogs’ “Feeling Good” and the Weeknd’s “Wicked Games.”
Up for Your Fave Artist/Group of the Year are Carly Rae Jepsen, Deadmau5, Drake and Justin Bieber. On the wild card are Hedley, Marianas Trench, Tegan and Sara, the Weeknd and Walk Off the Earth.
Votes can be cast at mmva.muchmusic.com. Wild card voting closes May 20, after which the final list of MMVA nominees will be made public at some point on the show New.Music.Live.
