The cartoonish, overly straightened hair came as a surprise to his fans after he arrived to the airport in beanie hat.

Back in 2010 a 17-year-old Zayn took to the stage at the X Factor with a short, flat style. The boys soon made it big and he got a new do to match their new found fame.
For 1D and Zayn's hair, the only way was up!
His next look was an extreme short back and sides, with the rest swept straight up.
This style started to morph into the hair we've come to know him for: the quiff.
