Selena Gomez spends time with fans before sold out Times Square charity concert

She's usually in the headlines for her relationships, but now she's using her celebrity for charity.

Selena Gomez stopped for photos as she thanked her fans, who waited for the star in nearly freezing temperatures, outside her UNICEF charity concert in New York City on Saturday.

The diminutive pop star dressed in a black coat and grey scarf over jeans and a pair of short brown leather booties.

She made sure to arrive early before her concert to take pictures with her fans -- some of whom paid as much as $250 per ticket -- as they formed a large crowd the Times Square venue.

The 20-year-old Disney actress even received a rose from crowd, which she proudly displayed in her shots.

Selena then shed her coat to reveal a grey sweater at soundcheck before the 8 p.m. curtain call.

Taking the stage with her for the acoustic show were also Good Luck Charlie star Bridgit Mendler and 18-year-old singer/songwriter Noah.

The charity concert is the pop star's third annual, benefiting the worldwide children's charity UNICEF.

'Nothing is more important than helping children in need around the globe,' she said about her charity work.

'I’m thankful that I can use my voice to bring awareness and much-needed funds to UNICEF so they can continue their critical work. Together, with my fans, we can save lives.'

Selena was appointed as a UNICEF Ambassador in 2009 and has since raised more than $200,000 at her concerts.

Last year's show was hosted by the House of Blues on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, Los Angeles.

In past years she has even travelled to Ghana and Chile to bring awareness about certain issues.

And in 2011, she helped launch Celebrity Tap, which raised money to help UNICEF provide water and sanitation programs in Togo, the Central African Republic and Vietnam.
