One Direction thrill fans with game of toy soldiers as thousands camp out to see them in New York

BIG kids Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne took over a New York toy store yesterday so they could play a game of soldiers.

The One Direction heart-throbs chased each other around Toys R Us in Times Square firing rubber bullets at each other.

The game was watched by thousands of frenzied fans who have camped out on the city's streets overnight to catch a glimpse of the band when they perform a free concert live on US TV this morning on The Today Show.

One Direction-ers started gathering in Rockefeller Plaza over the weekend and the queue of mostly teenage girls quickly stretched across several city blocks.

Organisers expect the crowd to top 10,000 by the time the band take to the stage today.

But bigger isn't always better - as Liam discovered yesterday after a clash with a gaggle of over-excited girls.

The 19-year-old had a meltdown on Twitter, lashing out at fans after the scary encounter.

He wrote: "If you guys were calm we would be able to stop but whenever we stop it just gets crazy nd i dont want any1 to get hurt.

"Had nothing but abuse today not much fun on our only day off in the US :("

He later backtracked, writing: "Guys i do really appriciate your support and love you all but sometimes it all gets too crazy for me."
