If sales hold up, a whole lot of One Direction fans could be taking home the band's new album this week. According to projections from Billboard, the boy band's second album (this year), Take Me Home, is headed to a huge debut week with sales possibly topping 500,000.
In fact, by the sales week's end on Sunday, they may top out at 575,000. While that figure is impressive for any act, it would only be the third-best chart debut of the year, coming behind Mumford & Sons' 600,000 bow for Babel and Taylor Swift's 1.2 million-moving first week with Red.
The final figures will be unveiled on Wednesday (November 21) morning. Home hits stores just eight months after the band's debut, Up All Night, which moved 176,000 units in its March 31 bow. That album has sold 1.35 million copies to date, giving 1D the third best-selling album in the U.S. in 2012. If Home sells well through Christmas the boys could have two titles in the year-end top 10.
It's been a pretty stellar week already for 1D, as their "Today" show gig on Tuesday broke a show record with 15,000 fans in attendance to watch them perform. During the "Today" appearance member Niall Horan broke the news to the screaming crowd that the band will be hitting the silver screen soon as well.
"We are going to do our first-ever movie and it's going to be in 3-D and it's coming to cinemas near you on the 30th of August, 2013," Horan said of the movie that will be helmed by "Super Size Me" documentarian Morgan Spurlock.
