MTV EMA 2012 Owned By Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift

We wish every circus were like the 2012 MTV EMA! Sunday's (November 11) awards show brought us our favorite performers, like Carly Rae Jepsen and Taylor Swift, and as if that weren't enough, there was plenty of fire, clowns, magic and even Heidi Klum.

The German supermodel acted as the yodeling ringmaster of the star-studded circus-themed affair at Frankfurt, Germany's historical Festhalle, which featured appearances by Kim Kardashian, Lana Del Rey, Ludacris and David Hasselhoff and a stacked lineup of performances throughout the night.

Rita Ora kicked off the MTV2 broadcast, emerging from the circus tent's ceiling in a life-size birdcage. Ora, looking fabulous in a red lace catsuit, performed "R.I.P," proving her lyrics "I'm ready for ya" true. It was a night of firsts for Taylor Swift, who first toured Europe this year and earned her very first EMA on the Frankfurt stage. But the singer took home more than just one award — Swift was one of the night's top earners, winning three awards. Bieber, who was not in attendance but made plenty of headlines over the weekend due to his reported breakup with Selena Gomez, also nabbed three, winning Best Male, Best Pop and Best World Stage.

Starting with a tease of the upbeat and inspirational track "New Day," Alicia Keys performed under an actual ring of flames as she sang "Girl on Fire," the title track from her upcoming album. Kim Kardashian presented the award for Best Song, which was given to a very nervous and excited Carly Rae Jepsen for "Call Me Maybe." Pumping up the energy in the crowd, Pitbull performed his latest single, "Don't Stop the Party," from his upcoming album Global Warming, along with his disco-ball-toting dancers.

Best Video, presented by David Hasselhoff dressed as an astronaut, was given to PSY for his smash hit "Gangnam Style." British rock band Muse played "Madness," but the focus of the performance was truly on lead singer Matthew Bellamy's sunglasses, which displayed the lyrics to the song — now that is madness.

One of our favorite moments of the night happened to be the last. Taylor Swift's circus-inspired performance of "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," which closed and epitomized the night, featured everything a proper circus should: a captivating ringmaster, clowns, animals, fire and a little magic.
