None of teen dream One Direction could be described as wild, but according to Zayn Malik he is the official “bad boy” of the band and he quite likes the tag.
The ‘Live While We’re Young’ star, has several tattoos, smokes and is often seen as the quietest member of the mega pop group, something he reckons makes him a smouldering bad boy.
“I like to use the term misunderstood,” he told US magazine Seventeen on how he is perceived.
“But I am a bit of a bad boy. I have tattoos and I mess around. That's part of my image, so it's cool.”
Earlier this year the star briefly left Twitter after receiving abuse for allegedly cheating on his girlfriend, Little Mix star Perrie Edwards, as well as personal attacks on his family.
Speaking of abuse he receives from some people on Twitter, he told The Sun's Fabulous magazine: “Nasty things [were said] like I’m a terrorist, and this and that. How can you justify that? How can you call me that and get away with it?
“You can say whatever you want about me, I’m not really bothered. But when it starts to upset people I care about or I hear about it from my mum, then that’s a problem."
A practising Muslim, Zayn, who is currently dating Little Mix's Perrie Edwards, admitted he gets online abuse duty to his religious beliefs.
“My little cousin put up a family picture at Eid because she got a photo with Perrie and she was so happy about it. But then everybody just gave it to me double barrel,” he explained.
“We live in 2012 and I thought we’d moved forward. If that was said to me on the street or if someone said it to me to my face or whatever then something could be done about it.”
