Miley Cyrus may soon make “The Climb” back into television. That is, unless Demi Lovato stops her.
The two former Disney stars are rumored to be in talks to join Fox’s “The X-Factor” as a judge, according to recent reports.
Though an insider with the reality singing competition show told Celebuzz.com that “there have been talks with Miley,” another source hinted to The Hollywood Reporter that Lovato is in final negotiations for the gig.
Cyrus and Lovato, both 19, are said to be in consideration because their age would appeal to a younger audience.
There are at least two openings for judges on “The X Factor” because Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, as well as host Steve Jones, were fired from the show in January. Producer Simon Cowell has been searching for some big names to join him and compete with his former show, “American Idol,” and NBC’s upstart “The Voice,” each of which boasts celebrity singers in the judging seats.
Britney Spears is reportedly nearing a contract to join “The X-Factor” for $15 million a season.
Cyrus and Lovato, however, are just the latest of several rumors linking bold-faced names to Cowell’s show. Producers have apparently also considered Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Pink and Whitney Houston, before her death in February.
Cowell could use the boost coming from a pop megastar who has sold more than 10 million copies of an album twice.
The former “American Idol” fixture predicted the Americanized version of his popular British show “The X Factor” would draw 20 million or more viewers in its debut season last fall.
It didn’t, averaging closer to 12 million.
