Rumors of a Justin Bieber-Selena Gomez Christmas proposal and engagement are now flying thick and fast. On December 7, Selena was spotted sporting a diamond ring on her left hand. And now rumor has it that she will put a ring on him and propose on Christmas in Canada. As far as the Teen Dream's family is concerned, however, how many rings are exchanged or who proposes to whom are both irrelevant. There will be no Jelena engagement, let alone marriage, if the Bieber clan has anything to say about it. And reportedly, they're saying plenty.
Justin Bieber's family reportedly "flipped out" when they learned that the Teen Dream and Selena Gomez are talking about getting engaged. In fact, just on general principle, they're not particularly happy about the intensity of the couple's relationship. According to an insider close to the Bieber clan:
"His family think they're way too young." Furthermore, "they're also concerned that the pair is moving too fast."
Of course, it's no secret that JB and his Latin Girl are hot and heavy and that they have been for some time. All that PDA hasn't left much to the imagination. But their relationship goes a lot deeper than horny photo ops.
"When they can't be together," continues the inside source, "they're on the phone talking for hours and hours. And each call ends with professions of love, need and desire."
"Love, need, and desire?" Yikes. The unholy trinity of teenage hormonal activity. Or should that be "Aww?"
While Justin's family likes Selena Gomez well enough, they simply don't think the two should get engaged at this time. And maybe they're right. On the other hand, no one gets through life without making mistakes. And if the teen stars are destined to make them, perhaps it's better that they make them now while they're very young and resilient, rather than when they're in their 30s or 40s. Whatever.
The bottom line is that in the end, it's not Justin's family's decision to make. It's his. Justin Bieber will turn 18 in March, 2012. He will be legally an adult, and he'll be able to do as he pleases with his life. Which is as it should be. Almost 67% of the recipients in a recent online poll believed that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez will get engaged. Although it wasn't clear whether they thought the couple should.
