He might have a bad memory when it comes to Christmas carols, but Justin Bieber knows all about the festive spirit and is using it to help out Starship Hospital.
Earlier this month, the music sensation launched the Believe Charity Drive, calling on fans to contribute to 20 charities around the world including New Zealand's Starship Foundation, which raises millions of dollars each year for the national children's hospital.
And while the pint-sized pop star may have struggled to remember the words to the song Santa Claus is Coming to Town while performing on an American TV show last week, he is hoping fans will support the charity further through his Christmas album.
Bieber has announced he will also donate a dollar for every copy of Under the Mistletoe sold in New Zealand before December 25 to the charity.
This means Kiwi fans can now choose to donate directly through Bieber's website or by buying a copy of the festive album.
"I am launching the Believe Charity Drive because I know firsthand that if you believe in your dreams, everything is possible," Bieber says.
"The Believe Charity Drive directly benefits charities that are making a difference in the world. You can go to [the website] and donate as little as one dollar, or even donate your time, because everything will make a difference.
"Please join me in our quest to raise millions of dollars by the release of my new 2012 album, Believe. I know that with your help we can make a change."
Starship Foundation CEO Brad Clark says the money raised will help children with a number of medical problems.
"The Starship Foundation is so grateful to have the support of superstar Justin Bieber and we encourage all of his New Zealand fans to get in behind the Believe Charity Drive and support Starship.
"The proceeds will go towards the rebuild of Starship Hospital's Neuroservices and Medical Specialties Wards, which treats conditions including neurological disorders, brain tumours, metabolic and genetic disorders, head trauma and suspected child abuse injuries, respiratory illnesses and infectious diseases."
