Keke Palmer Explains Why She Thinks Wicked's 'Defying Gravity' Is a 'Slave Hymn'

Keke Palmer has one of the most interesting takes on “Defying Gravity” from Wicked!

The 31-year-old actress said in a new interview that she thinks Elphaba’s big song is a “slave hymn.”

“Uh-aaahh-uh-aaahhahhhahhh!!” Keke said in a new MTV interview. “That’s a slave hymn.”

Keep reading to find out why she said that…

“Come on! When she got up there and she told those people! Y’all, it is really good,” Keke added. “Y’all know I ain’t lying.”

“You have got to save space for the lyrics of ‘Defying Gravity,’” she added, noting the viral interview with the movie’s stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

Keke added, “That — it makes me feel like you can’t stop me! No one is gonna bring me down!” she professed.

Keke‘s One of Them Days co-star SZA and producer Issa Rae were shook by the comment. Watch below!

In another interview, Keke explained why her experience as a child star was different than some of the famous Disney stars of the same time.
