'Wicked' Author to Pen New Galinda Prequel Book, Sets Release Date!

'Wicked' Author to Pen New Galinda Prequel Book, Sets Release Date!

Gregory Maguire is working on a new Wicked book!

The author of the original “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” novel, which the Broadway musical and two-part movie adaptation are based on, will be writing another prequel, this time focused on Galinda’s adolescence.

Keep reading to find out more…

In the forthcoming novel, “Galinda: A Charmed Childhood,” Gregory will chart the origin story of Galinda, who she was before she became who she was at Shiz University and beyond.

Here’s a synopsis, via Harper Collins: The youngest of four children in a high-born family down on their luck, Galinda is both pampered and ignored. Her natural grace promises to elevate her in the district dance competitions—but these efforts distract her from seeing the growing resentments of local merchants who disapprove of her family’s business strategies. Enmired in the self-satisfactions and unnamed timidities of childhood, Galinda finds in herself neither canniness nor the need to cultivate it. However, as her father deftly pivots around the snares and nets laid for him by his competitors, Galinda begins to dance toward a life that might lift her above her proud, if hardscrabble, childhood.

The book currently has a release date set for September 29, 2026, and you can currently pre-order your copy on Amazon!

This will serve as a sister volume to “Elphie: A Wicked Childhood” that was released earlier this year. Cynthia Erivo even narrates the audiobook. You can purchase the audiobook and/or a physical copy of the novel on Amazon HERE.

Keep reading to find out more…

“These videos of Cynthia erivo are not funny in my opinion and it’s getting a bit weird… I don’t know if I’m the only one thinking this. Let me know your opinion,” the caption of the video read, which you can watch below.

SZA agreed, writing in the comments, “Ir not bugging and no one is too woke ! It’s CLASSIC Misogynoir! NOTHING ELSE !!! can’t believe it’s openly a thing in 2025 .. everyone’s gonna have cognitive dissonance 2 years later like ‘remember when everyone attacked Cynthia for being black bald and nurturing?… that was crazy’ ..it could jus stop now lol 🤷🏾‍♀️”

Fans also captured screenshots of Ariana liking the video, as well as SZA‘s comment.

This comes as Ariana also just shared clips on her own story as a “friendly reminder” to not comment on other people’s bodies as the internet continues to talk about how Ariana, Cynthia and even Michelle Yeoh looked on the Wicked: For Good press tour.

Ariana Grande Shares a 'Friendly Reminder' About The Dangers of Commenting On Other People's Bodies

Ariana Grande is reminding everyone that she’s not a fan of how comfortable people have become nitpicking other people’s bodies.

The Wicked star reshared several clips on her Instagram Story from an interview she did during last year’s press tour in which she was given a chance to speak on the subject with French YouTuber Sally as part of her “Oui Oui Baguette” series.

Keep reading to find out more…

“I’ve been a specimen in a Petri dish, really, since I was 16 or 17, you know?” the “Moonlight” singer says in the clip.

“So I have heard it all. I heard every version of it, of what’s wrong with me. And then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for different reasons — from what you’re wearing, to your body, to your face, to your everything,” she added.

Ariana captioned the clip, “resharing from last year as a loving reminder to all.”

If you keep scrolling through her Instagram Story, you’ll see a few other specific clips from that interview.

She pasted the “Friendly Reminder” sticker over the one where she’d specifically called out the “comfortability” people have commenting on things like she’s wearing, her body, her face, etc. that Ariana feels is “really dangerous.”

'Wicked: For Good' Deleted Scene: Why They Cut a 'Passionate' Kiss Between Glinda & Fiyero

'Wicked: For Good' Deleted Scene: Why They Cut a 'Passionate' Kiss Between Glinda & Fiyero

There’s a scene you won’t see in Wicked: For Good that ended up on the cutting room floor.

Co-screenwriter Dana Fox recently spoke out in an interview with Deadline about the hit film.

During the conversation, she addressed a scene that didn’t make it into the movie involving Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) and Glinda (Ariana Grande).

Keep reading to find out more…

“I don’t think there’s anything that I wish we hadn’t cut because everything we cut, I felt we cut for exactly the right reasons. There are some beautiful things I’m sure will be in the deleted scenes,” she began to explain.

“Perhaps, there is a scene that I don’t know if it will be included. There was a scene between Fiyero and Glinda that we cut in which they kissed; it was romantic and beautiful, but a little too passionate,” she went on to explain.

“Seeing that made it too hard to watch him make the choice he makes to be with Elphaba and made it too hard to make it OK that Elphaba ran off with him. It was too real that he and Glinda were actually feeling something together.”

“It was like a feeling that he really did love her, which he does care about Glinda a lot, don’t get me wrong. But he likes her in a different way. But this scene was too romantic, so it was like, ‘Oh, we can’t know that because then our brains will explode when he doesn’t choose her in the end. And then we’ll hate Elphaba, Glinda and Fiyero.’ So, I think it was a good cut because it was too adorable that you simply couldn’t handle it,” Dana added.

She also opened up about the meaning behind that final shot of Glinda with the Grimmerie at the end of the movie.
