Pacquiao colleagues demand public apology from Justin Bieber

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber should publicly apologize to Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao for mocking the Filipino boxer on photo-sharing application, Instagram, following the latter's knockout loss recently to his Mexican archrival, lawmakers said Monday.

Representatives Carol Jayne Lopez (Yacap party-list), Seth Jalosjos (Zamboanga del Norte), Amado Bagatsing (Manila), Antonio Alvarez (Palawan), Mark Aeron Sambar (PBA party-list), Alfredo Garbin Jr. (Ako Bicol), and Isidro Lico (Ating Koop party-list) filed House Resolution 2962 to demand public apology from Bieber.

"Mr. Bieber should have known that the Hon. Pacquiao has reached his stature as such as a result of sheer hardwork, determination, and firm belief in God, and despite such stature best exemplifies humility and grace even despite defeat," the lawmakers said.

Should he refuse to apologize, Bieber should be declared persona non grata in the Philippines, the lawmakers said.

"Should he refuse to do so, Mr. Justin Bieber be declared persona non grata and thus should not be allowed to enter the country at any time in the future," the resolution stated.

Pacquiao was knocked out by Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez in the sixth round of their fourth encounter in Las Vegas, Nevada, last December 9 (Manila time). An overhand right from Marquez sent the Filipino pound-for-pound king face first to the canvas.

In his Instagram account, Bieber posted a few memes of Pacquiao after Marquez had knocked him out.

One picture shows a photoshopped image of the Disney character Simba leaning over Pacquiao and captioned "Dad wake up." Another photo shows Pacquiao's body before hitting the floor alongside the late singer Michael Jackson with the caption "Pacquiao doing the lean with MJ. Classic moment."

Bieber is a fan of American boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr., also a Pacquiao critic.

"He has nothing to gain fighting Pacquiao. Floyd has never in his professional career lost a fight and Pacquiao lost his two fights," Bieber said.

"As his colleagues in this august body, it is incumbent upon us to demand an apology from Mr. Justin Bieber lest, we declare him persona non grata in this country," the resolution read.

The Canadian singer has staged a concert in the Philippines once in May of this year.

Fans Lash Out at Justin Bieber After He Mocks Defeated Boxing Champion!

Justin Bieber ticked off a few fans over the weekend!

Known as a big sports lover, it was no surprise that Justin was watching the highly anticipated boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez Saturday night.

While many were routing for Pacquiao, JB went the other direction, slamming the People's Champion and routing for his competitor.

Previous to and during the fight, Justin, known for his sense of humor, posted a few pics on Instagram that upset a few Pro-Pacquiaos.

Not only did he cheer for Marquez, but he also went on a rant about how Floyd Mayweather Jr. could totally take on Manny Pacquiao.

Manny's a HUGE superstar in the Philippines and JB's international fans weren't too thrilled when he poked fun of their boxing idol.

Justin also ticked fans off when he posted a pic of Pacquiao being knocked out and allegedly doing the "lean" with Michael Jackson and one of him KO'd with baby Simba saying "Dad, wake up!"

Did Justin Bieber Make Fun Of Manny Pacquiao On Instagram?

The Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez fight has seemingly given rise to another bout of sorts, online this time; that is, between Justin Bieber and hordes of netizens who got offended by his recent posts on Instagram featuring the Filipino boxing champ.

The pop superstar posted a few memes on Instagram on Dec. 10 that features Pacquiao’s flat-on-the-stomach photo apparently captured after El Dinamita knocked him out in the sixth round of their fourth fight held Dec. 9 (Philippine time).

In the first photo, Pacquiao is made to appear doing the Michael Jackson "lean" —a signature dance move by the King of Pop. Pacquiao’s cropped photo was also edited to appear beside the pop icon.

As caption, Bieber wrote, “Pacquiao doing the lean with MJ .. Classic moment.” The post has generated nearly 200,000 likes as of this writing.

As expected, the photo page was swamped with thousands of comments, with some netizens lamenting that Bieber was being “rude” and “disrespectful” to Pacquiao.

“Wow Justin. Can't believe you said that. You just lost all my respect. Hope your happy,” wrote nerdyhipsta9818.

“well, pacquiao's our national hero. with all due respect to Justin. he's a big star, which makes his every move a big deal. this is just really wrong,” said danadalson, who’s apparently a Filipino.

The other photo shows Pacquiao knocked out cold inside the ring with a worried baby Simba (“Lion King” character) by his side.

"Dad wake up,” Bieber captioned in the photo, which so far has registered more than 100,000 likes and nearly 10,000 comments.

Some girl fans seemingly fell in love with the singer-songwriter even more because of his own brand of humor.

“I hope one day I find a guy that can take and make a joke like you!! I love you Justin,” gushed fromhebawithlove.

Bieber’s posts apparently became a spark of dismay for others who wished that the “Baby” hit maker would be more sensitive and responsible of his words and actions.

“Yeah, it may be a joke but to some people its not. Pacquiao blacked out. Im sure if jb passed out and someone made fun of him like this you beliebers would get mad. It's the same for other people. Just saying. This is mad disrespectful,” audreypicart commented.

Nevertheless, there were those who saw nothing wrong with Bieber’s posts. Swagrauhljdb, for one, argued, “You're judging Justin just because of his joke? Guys,i think you should know him first.”

It’s unclear, however, if Bieber himself created these memes or simply reposted them from another source. What’s pretty obvious is that he’s a supporter of Floyd Mayweather, Jr.—the boxing fans’ dream opponent for Pacquiao.

“He has nothing to gain fighting pacqiao, Floyd has never in his professional career lost a fight and Pacqiao lost his last two fights. If Floyd wins its not that big of a deal Cuz it would be his third loss in a row, and lf he loses he's gonna ruin his legacy either way there's no big win for Mayweather.. Mayweather is boxing,” wrote Bieber on a separate Instagram post.

Filipino fans were stunned by Manny Pacquiao's knockout defeat to Juan Manuel Marquez, dampening the spirit of a nation battered by a powerful typhoon that killed more than 600 people in the southern region where the boxing champion lives.

In New Bataan township, which was ravaged by Typhoon Bopha last week, refugees, rescuers and aid workers took a break from a grueling search for bodies and survivors to watch the fight on a big TV screen — only to be disappointed by their hero's sixth-round knockout.

The fight took place Saturday night in Las Vegas, or Sunday in the Philippines. Town spokesman Marlon Esperanza said hundreds of villagers, most of whom lost their homes to mud- and rock-laden flash floods, packed the local gymnasium used as a temporary shelter. Many had hoped Pacquiao would triumph and share his earnings with the typhoon victims.

"People were really dismayed," Esperanza told The Associated Press by telephone. "It was like they were hit by another typhoon."

Elementary math teacher Constancio Olivar said people were cheering for Pacquiao in the sixth round, then fell silent when Marquez landed a shot flush to the jaw of Pacquiao, who fell heavily to the canvas and remained motionless for some time.

"It was like a double blow for me — this disaster and this defeat," said Olivar, whose house was destroyed in the storm. "We were all crestfallen. Everyone fell silent, stunned. It was like we saw a tsunami."

In Manila, President Benigno Aquino III's spokesman Edwin Lacierda said Pacquiao's defeat "cannot set aside the many honors Manny has given to the Filipino people."

"Nothing has changed, the Filipino people continue to admire and support Manny," he said.

Boxing analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz said the defeat could demoralize Filipinos, particularly those in the typhoon-hit areas on the main southern island of Mindanao where Pacquiao is from.

"It's a double tragedy," he said. "People were looking at Pacquiao winning to give them some joy, some hope, some satisfaction. It didn't happen. On top of that, their anguish is further heightened as a result of his loss. ... This is like (Bopha) took a U-turn and came back to hit us with a Pacquiao knockout."

Nathanielsz said Pacquiao, who trained for two months, may not have spent enough time for physical conditioning unlike Marquez, who spent twice as many months preparing for the fight.

"The problem is when you get older, everything else must flow from the basic foundation of strength and conditioning. If you are not in condition, you have a problem," he said.

At the Baclaran Central Elementary School hall in the Manila suburb of Paranaque, where hundreds watched the fight, government employee Jacqueline Gabriel said she was dismayed by Pacquiao's performance.

"Pacman is weaker now," she said, using Pacquiao's nickname. "He is no longer like what he used to be. ... He should retire now."

But factory worker Charlie Cerillo, 37, said Pacquiao, who is also a congressman, should not retire just yet.

"He should not have been a congressman. He should focus on sports and if he wants to be a congressman, he should focus on being a congressman," he said.

Pacquiao's mother, Dionisia, said that if it was up to her, she wanted her son to stop boxing.

"I want him to rest now, to relax," she told DZMM radio. "If he wants to be a politician, let him serve and pour everything into that. ... Only God will make him stop."
