While hitting the MTV VMAs red carpet without his brothers, Nick Jonas opened up about his solo career, telling us what his experience has been like making the move.
"It's been a big step," Nick, who looked dapper in a Vivienne Westwood navy checkered blazer, told us Sunday. "It takes a second to get used to it, and for me it's just about coming out here and making a statement now as a solo artist. I'm trying to set up my next moves and I'm thankful that fans are trying to come on the journey with me."
As for what sort of sound fans can expect on his upcoming album, Nick said, "It's got a lot of different influences from Stevie Wonder, Prince to more modern stuff like The Weekend, Frank Ocean and Jhene Aiko. I'm trying to pull from all my different influences and find a sound that's just really me."
Nick's album aside, he also gave us the scoop on what went down when he and his brother Joe Jonas partied in Las Vegas recently.
In addition to Joe dancing with a mini stripper at Beacher's Madhouse for his birthday blowout, Nick said, "It was a fun trip. It's hard to remember a lot of it, but we won money in the casino, which has never really happened, so that was fun."
"We had a great time," he continued. "There were just all sorts of friends who happened to be in town at the same time. We met up with them, so that was a good time."
Nick's girlfriend, Olivia Culpo, also went with them on the trip, and walked the carpet with her man at last night's show.
